At the beginning of your video, you already have the 4 short color coded wires connected to the wall plate but the one I bought doesnt have wires installed. How do you install the short wires first?

If your phone service is connected the wires will be live with 52 volts nominal and 110 volts when the phone rings.
That is why phones are no longer considered 'low voltage'. If no phone service has been established then the wires you use will be dead. You can verify the color code by checking the service connection box located just below your main service panel. You can install the jack live as long as your hands are dry, you may get a slight tingle at most. Thanks for the comment.

I couldn’t see what you were doing because the jack was in back of your hands, or off-screen entirely. When I could see it, the jack was angled flat so it was hard for me to see. Sorry, it’s just that my jack looks very different from yours, so I needed to see it more facing the camera. I had a jack that didn’t have screws—the wires were somehow inserted and held in place by grooves in a plastic ‘board.’ My replacement jack uses screws. Each of the wires on the board is held down by screws. Opposite each one has a terminal on the opposite side for the house wires. I have a red and a green wire, so I wired my red opposite the jack’s red. There wasn’t a green wire on the board, so I wired my green on the terminal opposite the blue wire on the board. My phone is still dead. I was hoping that a video might show me what I did wrong, but I couldn’t see your board well enough. Thanks anyway.

Well, Even though the chrome steel wall mount telephone jack maybe slightly different (without screws for wire connections).

I will vouch for color code only. Phones operate at 52 volts static and 110 volts dynamic when the phone rings. Never heard of the same wire accommodating both AC and DC current. It is not practical. You can leave the power on unless your working with you knees on wet grass. By leaving wire connected outside you can test your phone as soon as you hook it up. Any shock would be minimal unless you were well grounded while someone was trying to call your number at time of connection.

Can the wires electrocute me? I don't want to put a plate on it, just cut it and tuck it in there and hang a flat surface directly with the wall. If there were a plate cover over the phone jack opening it would cause the surface to lay unevenly.
What do you think? Fire hazard?
I don't have the tool that is used to test if it's a live wire or not. Do you know any other way to test if the wire is live or not?
Thanks, Kristin
