VIDEO DESCRIPTION:

Welcome to Angela's tiny home at Village Farm in Austin, where living small means living large in love and community! Angela and her husband, Neil, have created a beautiful and functional space in their Magnolia model tiny home, perfect for those looking to embrace a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle.

Step Inside the Cozy Magnolia Model

Angela's home boasts a proper kitchen with ample cabinet space, full-size appliances (except for the tiny but mighty dishwasher), and a charming Wedgewood blue color scheme. The granite countertops may not have been their first choice, but they’ve made them work beautifully with their chosen décor.

Smart Storage Solutions

Living tiny means getting creative with storage. Angela shares her tips, from using a shoe rack from Target and repurposed wine boxes for pantry items to finding the perfect small microwave to combine with the existing range hood. With a deep residential-size sink and 100 gallons of fresh water capacity, this kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful.

Living Room Comfort and Style

The living room is a cozy haven with wood detailing, a multifunctional lift-top table for storage, and a Samsung Frame TV that doubles as art. Angela’s gallery wall and custom shelf for pretty items only add to the charm. And let’s not forget the innovative folding stairs from Bcompact in Australia, which are both beautiful and functional, leading to two loft spaces.

Loft Spaces for Work and Relaxation

The first loft is Angela’s office and favorite nap spot, featuring a nest chair that converts to a full-size bed. The second loft is a zen zone, perfect for quiet moments and additional storage.

Multipurpose Hallway and Bathroom Bliss

The hallway serves multiple functions with a bathroom, closet, and laundry room. Angela’s bathroom features a bidet, faux stone detailing, and a full-size shower. The laundry room is equipped with a full-size washer and dryer, and a clever drying rack for gym clothes.

Serene Bedroom with Outdoor Access

The bedroom includes two spacious closets and a queen-size bed with a built-in headboard. The sliding glass doors lead to a screened back porch, creating an airy, expansive feel. The back porch, a favorite of Angela’s pups, is a safe and delightful outdoor space.

Living at Village Farm

Village Farm offers an incredible lifestyle with lot rent significantly lower than typical Austin rents. The screened back porch, multiple outdoor living spaces, and vibrant community make this tiny home feel much larger. The outdoor garden, water feature, and communal spaces provide a perfect blend of privacy and social living.

A Tight-Knit Community

Living at Village Farm means being part of a caring, supportive community. Neighbors are friends, often gathering on each other’s porches and working together on the farm. Angela gets emotional describing the wonderful sense of belonging and connection they’ve found here.

Conclusion

Angela’s tiny home at Village Farm is more than just a place to live; it’s a lifestyle choice that brings joy, sustainability, and community. If you’re considering tiny living, this tour is a must-watch. Follow Angela’s journey and get inspired to embrace a smaller, more meaningful way of life.

Hi. And thanks for all the lovely comments related to my tiny home tour. I am unable to comment or reply for some mysterious reason, but I wanted to answer a few question that were repeated in several comments. My friend and neighbor, Lisa is helping me out by posting this note.

First, I want to assuage the concerns of folks who fear that our pups LIVE on the porch. They do not. They share every inch of our tiny home with us. They were only on the porch during the tour because we didn’t want them to get stepped on (or bark) as we were filming. My tiny 12 pound chihuahua mix really appreciated being referred to as a medium sized dog… It made his day. Most of us here in Tiny Town have dogs, and dog parties are frequent events as we all take our fur babies out for walks several times each day. We are a pedestrian friendly community with cars only around the perimeter and walking trails throughout. We also have 2 dog parks for safe off-leash time. Pups are very happy here.

Next up, yes, my home is a park model RV. Every home at Village Farm is in that category, and yes, we are an RV park (albeit one with a farm in the middle). That park model designation means we have 399 square feet. Lofts and porches are not counted in that number. My home was built by Clayton Homes. When I referred to my builder when talking about the many custom changes I made, I was actually referring to my local general contractor. My home was built during the Covid lockdown and no customization was available thru the builder during that time. All of my custom work was completed onsite after we took delivery of the home.

A few people asked why people don’t just buy land and put their tiny on that rather than pay rent in a community. There can be many reasons for this, although often it has to do with zoning laws and taxes. In many areas, there is a minimum number of square feet for a home to be designated as a primary residence. As a result, tiny homes can often only be added to a property as an accessory dwelling unit once a traditional stick built home is present. That is the case in Austin. It is also quite expensive to bring in city water, sewer, and electricity for just a single tiny home and while many people are happy to be off grid with wells and composting toilets, that is not our comfort level, so a community suits us very well. We also really enjoy neighbors. Taxes… We have no real property and we have no land, so no property taxes. In Texas, property taxes are about 3% of the market value of a home and Austin’s median home price is currently $560, 000. That’s $16, 800 per year… forever… assuming the market stagnates. Otherwise its going up every year. That’s a major reason we sold our pink princess and went tiny.

Some wondered where/how my husband fits into our home. We share every inch of the home, although I admit I get the lion’s share in the closet category. Fortunately, he is comfortable with the whimsy, family photos and art walls, and he doesn’t share my clothing disorder so it works.

Related to the folding stairs… BCompact is the amazing Australian company that created those beauties. We love them so much, but I did want to mention that there are a few reasons why the stairs original to the home didn’t suit us (yet look and function very well in several homes in my neighborhood). Our home faces east, sits under 2 giant oak trees, and has a patio cover over the front door and 2 window. As a result, we have less light than homes with different orientations. That low light made the stairs feel oppressive in our space. The BCompact stairs opened up the space for us while allowing us easy access to our lofts.

Finally on the topic of “stuff”. While some folks who go tiny are minimalists, we are not. We have a small energy footprint simply due to our small size, but we love our family photos and art and souvenirs from our travels. Those things are what create a home for us and they bring us joy. The line between whimsy and clutter is very personal and ever changing, and tiny living is an ongoing process of culling, curating, and revising. Reduce, reuse, recycle are always a part of that process. Again, thank you for the many kind comments.

Best tiny home I've ever seen - love all the design changes she made - especially the outdoor/porch spaces. Those folding stairs are so creative. She is a fantastic spokesperson for these homes - and the fact that she is in a great community makes it all the more sweeter.
