I'd give Ash more than 6 for Paldea due to the different storylines would allow for more rotations.
1. Pikachu
2. Armarouge (Obvious mon with an easy counterpart for a rival)
3. Lokix [maybe even shiny] (Starts out weak and scared but becomes cool and the balloon popper)
4. Cyclizar or Koraidon (Depends on if Ash is getting the SV game plot or not, but Cyclizar is a good overly affectionate mon)
5. Grafaiai or Tinkaton (The Prankster or Troublemaker, likes to be mischievous but pulls through when it counts)
6. Palafin or Quaquaval (The flashy/stylized battler that Ash would have to make tactics to accommodate their battle style)
7. Cetitan or Baxcalibur (The Little Guy to Big Guy. Starts as an egg, very child like and mimics the other Pokémon to be flashy, cool, disciplined, affectionate, and mischievous; very gullible amd late evolution [very fast to final stage if Baxcalibur]
8. Brambleghast or Toedscruel (The accidental capture, wild mon that just happened to touch a Pokeball or Ash missed the throw at another mon hitting this by accident, and Ash offers to let it go but it comes back; very much a non battler at first and hiding behind other mons and Ash before a fight)
