Strong winds, heavy rains lash the Philippines as Typhoon Kammuri nears

The eastern coast of the Philippines is being lashed with strong winds and heavy rains as Typhoon Kammuri draws closer. Packing wind gusts of up to 185 km/h, the typhoon is expected to slam into the Bicol region. Officials have warned that storm surges measuring up to three metres could hit coastal areas. The typhoon will also be on track to pass close to the capital Manila, where many ongoing SEA Games events are hosted. Several events have been rescheduled or postponed. Organisers have reassured athletes that contingency plans are in place.
