'Why I Quit Veganism'

"I am quitting veganism. It's just too hard... I hate being weird. I hate sticking out. I just want to be normal."

If you know any former vegans or vegetarians, chances are good this is their primary reason for dropping the lifestyle!

But the good news is it is only getting easier and less weird by the day! Millenials are vegan and vegetarian at a much higher rate (some estimate about 20%). Options for eating out are increasing and animal product substitutes taste better and better every year.

If you want real change you have to be willing to be weird. Stick with it. You won't be weird for too long.

Hi! I'm Devin. I'm your health coach. Over the past 7 years I've moved from being pescatarian to vegetarian to vegan to fully Plantiful. What is fully Plantiful? It's a 100% plant-based diet, and it helped me drop 30 pounds without trying! No, seriously.

A Plant-Based Diet is powerful. Research shows it can help prevent and reverse our leading killers, like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers!

I can help you get there. I know what it takes, from personal experience, and from professional experience. I have my master's degree in Health Promotion Management. I am trained in the art and science of changing behaviors. I know it ain't always easy, and what you need is a patient advocate who can help you see the challenges ahead and celebrate your successes.

+Plantiful Health Please don't put up titles like that. I know you want click bait, but it gives the wrong impression. You could have put up a title like "Why do people quit veganism".

When I did low carb many moons ago, people thought I was weird. So now I'm vegan, they still think I'm weird. Not that low carb is healthy but many others perceive it as healthy. So my point is that you are right, it's weird to be healthy.

Why do all vegans have to put misleading titles on their videos?

This was a fantastic observatory video! The willingness to be WEIRD and different for the benefit of your own health and well being, while simultaneously changing the planet for the greater good! We only have this one body, it truly is your temple! Treat it as such. Thank you for this!

I am a vegetarian in the South. My friends are constantly trying to shove food down my throat because I "am not getting enough protein." Even my friends mom told me that I was being unhealthy. I had no problem being a smart a*s and tell her that I actually kept up with my protein intake for a week and had over 20 more grams necessary for my size and age. People ask me why and I just say that I do not want to stab baby pigs in the face and they do not ask me again. If I do not say something like that then they will try to preach to me about it. I only know 1 other vegetarian but her whole family is and she has been for her whole life. I do not know her that well so I would not count her. I do not mind being the only one around me because I like being weird. I am also the only girl in my grade with a pixie cut, the only girl on drum line, the only kid who has changed instruments for concert season, and the only kid in my grade who dyes their hair. It does not bother me one bit. It annoys me seeing everyone be exactly the same here and being so different makes me feel like I am not one of them, because I do not want to be. My friends do not agree with most of the stuff I do but once I actually do it I change their mindset a little on the subject which makes me happy. Man I talk a lot.

read the title and just put a question mark at the end?

I know I'm replying a little late, but your video really struck a chord with me.  My husband isn't vegan and I don't have any vegan friends.  It can be really isolating.  It's good to know that there are others that feel the same way.  This is why I love instagram and youtube.  It allows me to connect with other vegans.

The whole peer pressure thing is exactly where I'm at, I've been vegan for just a couple months and my family completely supports it and helps me to make meals and buys me my food but I'm young, so when I go over to my friends houses I can't eat vegan because I find it rude to deny the food the parents prepared. I'm not really sure how to go about that.

No matter what I eat or don't eat I'm always going to stick out. I might as well eat what I want.

So pleased you are still one of the bright eyed, bushy tailed, clear skinned tribe. People see vegans as fussy and awkward - I know several people think of me that way. Sometimes I feel a little defiant and wear a t-shirt with "Vegan" emblazoned across the chest - other times I almost want to apologise for declining dinner invites or offering to bring my own dishes. Since I've started yoga I have met a whole lot more vegans and vegetarians; and of course YouTube is amazing and confirms that there are many like-minded "weirdos" out there.

Not even fully vegan. Can attest to feeling ultra weird with my oats and my lentils... Just trying to lead a healthy lifestyle with less animal products and more exercise makes you look like a freak socially. It can get tough. I cant imagine being 100% vegan.

Hi! I really liked this video, because I used to be a vegetarian and in high school all my friends were too. But when I went to university I had to move to an other city and find a place to live. Now, I'm from the Netherlands and every city with an university has a housing problem, so when you apply for a room you have to compete with like 30 other people. I got shot down every time I said I was vegetarian, it was just not accepted. I had to neglect my principles in order to find a room. It felt like crap, so I only eat meat when I'm with other people who do.

I don't mind being weird. I have been all my life. But it's so hard finding vegan options eating out with friends sometimes. Even worse if family or friends are cooking. On my own I can go to restaurants where there are vegan options when in my city. But when I was traveling in Texas and Montana, it was nearly impossible. Also, I didn't always want to be cooking at night, so I ate a lot of veggie burgers and fake cheese and stuff. That didn't feel healthy to me.

Thanks for being a positive role model for vegans.

Totally understand your comment about "being healthy is not normal in this country." As a healthy person at work, I am constantly covering for the unhealthy ones who call in sick all the time. Some days I feel I am being punished for making good choices when it comes to food and exercise (trust me there is still lots of room for improvement in both categories too).
