My personal take. I like quality; that might be quality of the cloth, the cut, the tailoring. In shoes, it’s the quality of the leather and the style. You perhaps get my drift. Brands don’t impress me per se - but quality does.

I do a little bit of leatherwork as a hobby. I find it very therapeutic. I make homages to Hermes bags (with my makers label in them) because my family like them. I get a kick out of using the best leather, the best hardware and 100% stitching.

LV cases have the brand and the image but I don’t think they are the best quality - certainly not a quality to justify the cost. The carcass is plywood; quite good plywood balancing strength with lightness but I would use bamboo plywood because of its resilience. We all know the canvas is just that - canvas and costs about £25 per metre for the best quality. The reinforcements are not leather but all the hardware seems very high quality. I can, and will, make a case that has better components - better plywood, best canvas, leather reinforcements, cotton and linen internals with hardware of equal quality. Costing it without labour at around £250. Because I’m old and slow and do everything by hand, my labour hours will be much more than than LV; on the other hand, I don’t charge for my labour.

So, if you, like me, like the aesthetic of LV cases, then great. But, as for value for money, y I can’t help but think they may not be a good investment over the longer term. Surely, the LV bubble will burst?

So, a slightly controversial comment but I think worthy of making

This is a great video. I love your content, and you’re a very elegant man. Does the camera reveal a bit of water damage on the 75?

Very nice! I'd say that they would be even more beautiful with a bit of wear, wouldn't you agree?
