'New' Film Manufacturer in 2024?

In the past couple months, I've come across more and more film stocks that are seemingly a "new" film stock in 2024. While there are a limited number of film manufacturers, I was surprised to find out about a handful of unique films from some different film companies. From a new 800 speed film, re-spooled fuji cinema film, and some other films that are inconclusive, there's not direct ties to where these are coming from, but are claiming to be unique stocks, which is quite intriguing. Super stoked to get more new 35mm, even if it is just re-spooled or altered film. It more than likely will appeal to a more local audience, allowing this medium to continue to grow. Let me know what you think about these "new film stocks" in the comments!

This reminds me that I have to scan some of my negatives. I bought and shot SantaColor when I was in Finland, and I got it developed back home in the US. I've been busy in the past few months though, and I haven't scanned some of my rolls. I'll do it next week I think, because I have more free time then.

Thanks for this because I don't think most photographers realized that there are really only maybe 4 or so companies actually manufacturing film...meaning they are actually making the film itself (Kodak, Ilford, Fuji, ADOX, Orwo, Shanghai GP3 and Ferrania). everyone else...literally EVERYONE else is repackaging this film with little to no change to the original film product and calling it something fancy to resell it. Cinestill is getting all of their film directly from Kodak..not sure the whole process but they are essentially washing off the remjet and respooling it and jacking up the price on it....but to their credit they are at least "doing" something to the film before repackaging to make it c41 ready. Everyone else is getting hold of old or new film stocks from these 4 or so companies making the film. Kodak is no longer selling their bulk rolls to people outside of the filmmaking industry...Except I think Cinestill is still getting their film from Kodak but there's a bunch of legal stuff around that...I've heard some reasons are around quality control and protecting the Kodak brand etc. but that's it in a nutshell. I was shocked to learn this because I thought all these fancy new films are really something new. It's still cool to see film circulating and getting out there even if it's repackaging. I'm here for it all the same!

Dude thanks for mentioning FLIC FILM! I shot their "Elektra100" stock over the summer and it's wildly good. Much love from east Tennessee!

I've made 2 videos for Reflx Lab's 800 tungsten. One roll I shot in bright daylight (because experimenting.) and the other was more what it was aimed at. I'm a big fan of what Reflx Lab is doing. I've also shot their 100D & Pro 100. Will be sharing about those sometime in the future. I live in China and there is a rather large film community here, so it's awesome to be able to see new stuff coming out across the world and not only here from local manufacturers. I'm pretty amped that manufacturers are seeing there is still a market for film.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Pentax & Rollei film cameras?

Always great to have new film, especially bulk loading (or whatever the correct terminology is), to shoot in different cameras. If I can respool a still film roll on a 100 feet spool and shoot movie, Id be happy. Only thing would be perfs, i dont know which would fit what movie camera : D

Are you saying Flic Film is a manufacturer of colorfilm besides Kodak, Fujifilm and Orwo (and of course Harman and Adox starting manufacturing it wit experimental films )? Their film is very mature, so how come?

Aurora 800 is just Portra 800 respooled.

Flic could be just Kodak 800 for disposable cameras, just like Lomo 800
