DJI’s Amflow PL Carbon longterm review – But it’s not a perfect...

Показать описание
After six long months on the entry-level Amflow PL Carbon, as MBR’s Bike Test Editor, I'd say: “It’s currently the only e-bike on the market that I'd buy with my own money.
High praise indeed from an impossible to please self-confessed bike geek.
But I'm picky enough to point out that Amflow’s very first e-bike is far from perfect. And in this review I highlights all of the things I love and hate about the bike.
Chapters:
0:00 Intro
0:43 Geometry and sizing
2:36 Suspension
5:04 E-bike system
9:57 Components
13:56 Performance
16:50 Verdict
Spoiler alert, I'm absolutely addicted to the 850 watts peak power output of the DJI Avinox motor, which is between 200-250 watts higher than most other e-bikes in this category.
The Amflow is also considerably more powerful than most of the SL e-bikes that I tested in our 2024 SL E-bike of the Year test, even though it’s not actually that much heavier.
As you can imagine, there’s a boat-load of information to get through in this review, so I've split it into five distinct sections, just to make it easier to digest.
The review starts with a closer look at the Amflow's frame and geometry, but if you really want an in-depth look at all of the measurements, check out my Amflow Unboxing video where I weigh and measure the stock bike in full 29in, and with an MX wheel configuration.
And just to be 100% clear, when I'm referring to the modified geometry in the video with the 27.5in rear wheel, it's with the geometry flip chip still in the 29in setting.
Then the discussion moves rapidly onto my favourite topic: suspension. Here I reveal how I set up the bike to get the most from the 150mm rear suspension. I also explain why the “basic” Performance level Fox Float in-line shock totally outperforms the Factory level Fox Float X on the more expensive Amflow PL Carbon Pro.
The focus then switches to the beating heart of the Amflow, which is obviously the compact and powerful DJI Avinox motor and all of the sophisticated electronic e-bike tech surrounding it. From the self-closing charging port to the bright, easy-to-read, touch-screen display, the Amflow has class-leading integration to match its best-in-class power output. But it’s actually the Amflow’s ability to meter that power output so precisely that impressed me the most.
I then run through all of the key components, and the modifications I made to the specification while trying to squeeze every drop of performance out of the Amflow. This section should be really insightful for anyone who already has an Amflow and wants to get the most out of their bike.
To wrap up the review I puts all of the pieces of the puzzle together and talk openly about my impressions of the Amflow, both up and down hill. This bike has been tested on everything from high-speed rocky trails in Italy, to the dank, dark forests of South Wales. Day trips to the Forest of Dean, beatings at Bikepark Wales, Surrey dusty shredder laps, and range tested on some amazing trails around Monmouth. All because I needed to know if the Amflow PL Carbon really was the one.
Yes, this review has been a long time coming, but with a brand new bike design like the Amflow, that’s packed with so much tech, in-depth reviews really do take lots of time. And while it’s always nice to be first, I feel it’s even more important to be thorough, at least when it comes to testing.
Also this video is not sponsored content and I'm able to talk candidly about my experience with what has to be the hottest mountain bike of 2025.
So please support the channel, as it helps keep us, and everyone else, honest.
