I wish this was around 33 years ago when I first started playing. I loved my Pearl Export kit but I would've given anything to be able to afford a Sonor kit as a first set. Anything Sonor builds or has a hand in building sounds better than all the other manufacturers.

It would be more impressive if companies made ads with "No eq or compression" this means absolutely nothing. You're hearing a great drummer and mixing eingineer

Kit saund great.
It is posible dhat new kit its a like SmartForce oldskool vintage drum but onli entry in the World of Sonor.
But i be werry greatful The Company too get us real saund without EQ + kompress+ odher things.
I heare in this video good drumer and good saunding eing.

New lugs, new colours, new pedal, but apart from some modernized design features the AQX series seems to be identical to the old Sonor Smart Force series (also made from poplar wood). For a couple of years Sonor didn't offer low-priced drum kits for beginners - in contrast to all the other major manufacturers. It is good that they changed their mind. Considering the price, I assume that this product-line is manufactured in China.

Bad move “if” these are replacing the AQ2s! I’m a dedicated Sonor player. I Love my: Ascent Jazz set, my multiple snares & a beautiful sounding 12 x 9 Maple rack tom from the AQ2 series, that I swap out on my Ascents. It's disappointing that this new AQX series goes back to using Poplar versus Maple! The AQ2s were (are?) the perfect drums for getting an open, warm & resonant "maple sound" for a good price. Using Poplar is a step backwards for what should remain a high-end drum company. There's just no comparison in sound between North American (even Chinese) Maple and the "cardboard thud, poor response, unpredictable quality & lack of resonance" of inexpensive Poplar. Sonor, you already learned this lesson: that you "can't compete" in the already flooded mass-market student/beginner sector. So, you re-branded yourself as a high end drum company 2 or 3 years ago. Which begs the question: why are you trying this again? You may share resources and facilities with Mapex, but don't have to become them-Oops-forgot, Mapex uses Maple :) !
