Java Jive - The K Sisters

The K Sisters perform this fun arrangement of the great classic, "Java Jive"...which includes some rather peculiar historical references to ways of drinking coffee - including the New York tradition of putting half an onion and a raw egg into your coffee to make a breakfast-type dish/drink! Yum!

I remember singing this song in choir in 12th grade.  It was so much fun; great memories :)

This is fabulous! My second favorite version of this song. Well, I can't help loving the original by the Ink Spots recorded in 1940, just a teenie weenie bit more. :) But this is truly great! :) Oh, and I love the Manhattan Tranfer's version too! The King Sisters did an awesome version in 1941.

"A slice of onion and a raw one" was an order for a raw hamburger. Uncooked beef enjoyed a certain popularity during the '30s and '40s - sometimes known as "cannibal steak." Has nothing to do with coffee per se, and is certainly not a breakfast order, though it is the way orders were called in diners.

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the java and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup (boy!)

I love java, sweet and hot
Whoops mr. moto, I'm a coffee pot
Shoot me the pot and I'll pour me a shot
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup

Oh slip me a slug from the wonderful mug
And I'll cut a rug just snug in a jug
A sliced up onion and a raw one
Draw one -
Waiter, waiter, percolator

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the java and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup

Boston bean (soy beans)
Green bean (cabbage and greens)
I'm not keen about a bean
Unless it is a chili chili bean (boy!)

I love java sweet and hot
Whoops mr. moto I'm a coffee pot (yeah)
Shoot me the pot and I'll pour me a shot
A cup, a cup, a cup (yeah)

Slip me a slug of the wonderful mug
'an I'll cut a rug just as snug in a jug
Drop a nickel in the pot joe
Takin' it slow
Waiter, waiter, percolator

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the java and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, boy!

Прекрасно исполнена классика. Сопрано с перчинкой. Мужчины в этом квартете были бы лишними . Браво.

Outstanding!  Well done :) . Beautiful voices. Very nice hair, dress, moves. I don't over drink coffee, but, the song is so well done and seductive, I would have a cup. lol I am also relieved that it wasn't about what some self indulgent, unregenerate male wants. Jim

Greatings,
first of all, I would like to say that you are very tight in your harmonics, but there's one voice that doesn't blend with the rest of the group. I find it hard to hear well the other parts from the other girls with the soprano 1. Her voice, for my part, sounds a little bit too much like a musical comedy. maybe turn it down a bit ? I though that you all have beautiful voices and I love that style. Thank you and keep up the good work !

Nice harmony and balance! I'm slightly surprised, however, that you did not hold notes to showcase your musicality; rather, the endings of words with vowels are clipped short. We want to hear MORE not less. :-) For example, "I love the Java Jive and it loves me" (1:07 - 1:10). Here, I would love to hear the held for the full count vs. the clipped half count with sharp cutoff (early, in my opinion). The audience is deprived of your wonderful sound and we're left with an prolonged silence. We want to hear more. Keep singing!!!
