What’s the difference between labor cost and profit here? If we are comparing it to a normal salary job, isn’t the labor cost what someone gets paid to do their work?

You can think of it as someone gets paid $20/hr for 20 hours with an additional $5000 profit, or you could just say the person gets paid $270 / hr

Not sure which one makes more sense in this case. It sounds like it’s more a comparison to a private business owner with many employees, but in the case of art it is usually just 1 person.

I agree with everything however I think some of the frustration also comes from the market. Can’t make something that no one is prepared to pay for. The average person wouldn’t be want to fork out that much money for art. Thus making it exclusive for wealthy people

If a piece doesn't sell the artist ends up dragging it around and having to store it, where it can get damaged, stolen, broken, etc. Mark it down or give it away if it doesn't move.

It all sounds so logic and I just wish I could pay the prices, but somehow it still takes away some of the magic.
