The protagonist doesn't have to be good though and the antagonist doesn't have to be bad. Death Note is a perfect example.

Of Course,

The Protagonist
is a Leading Character.
Which often Fine, Pleasant, Righteous and Noble Qualities
(Hero)

The Antagonist
is an Opposing Character
Which often Malicious, Bad, Ill-intentioned and Dangerous
(Villain)

But not always the Case

Some Good Protagonists.
can be having Fatal Flaws, Lack Good Qualities
or Gotten Corrupted

Some Bad Antagonists.
can be having Fatal Flaws, Lack Evil Qualities,
or Redemption

But Both also comes in other
Moral alignments

Even if Protagonists are often Fine, actively Righteous and Noble Qualities.
(Hero)

They're just mostly Good (Heroic),
Sometimes can be Neutral and Also Malicious

Even if Antagonists are often Bad,
Very malicious and Bad-intentioned
(Villain)

They're just mostly Evil,
Sometimes can be Neutral and Also Good (Heroic)

Just a Feedback

The protagonist is simply the main character. Not automatically the good guy. A protagonist could be evil. Look at Death Note.

A protagonist is simply the character the story follows and is revolved around

I feel like the Peter pan example is confusing because it depends on which book

Easy to say

A good challenge can make happiness until good ending.

A bad challenge can make terrible until bad ending.

Any possibilities way with their challenging good or bad?

Antagonists is an obsession for me. I love backstory for evildoers and antagonists in fiction and reality, hence my fascination with true crime and serial killers. If a fictional character has no explained backstory, I invent my own based on details I notice and use my imagination. It helps me become more engrossed in the story.

Protagonist is not necessarily a good guy or a hero and the antagonist is not necessarily bad guy

I'm teaching a raisin in the sun. I feel like all characters except the son or grandson are protagonists.
