This was great. I did a project on the Beats in grad school. Neil Cassidy was so important to so many Beat writers, like their muse, or their hero. Its a shame that what he wrote wasnt good/hasnt lasted, but what an important cultural force he was -- inspiring the Beats in the 50s and Jack Kerouac and hippies in the 60s.

I'm very glad you mentioned the over the top mysoganmy in the novel. I could not get passed this in the novel. I love how you balance praise and criticism in your reviews.

I think it's very interesting that so many musicians have listed this book (and the best generation as a whole) as an influence, Cobain, Bowie and Bob Dylan. I often wonder if Keraoc and Burroughs influenced Rock music more than literature. It's very interesting how the different arts bleed into on another.

Thank you, Juan! This is a great review! Usually I only watch reviews after I've finished a book and I'm still reading this book atm. But this is not a book you could spoil in any way and everything you said helps me even more to understand this novel.
I wouldn't say that I agree with Capote, but I can definitely see his point.

Solid video and I can tell you had interest in Jack and On The Road at least at some point in your life. It's sad to me how they ended up. Just imagine being in one of those kitchens all those years ago smoking and drinking all night with Dean and Sal and whoever else. Yes man! That's it! Yes!

I read this many years ago, when I was in college, and I think a lot of it was lost on me. You've piqued my interest in it again, though, and I'll think about a reread.

I loved On the Road when I was a teen. I wrote the last few paragraphs on my bedroom wall. Lol.
