IRIAF F-14 Tomcat makes an air show appearance! What do you think? The Iranian F-14 is still a major threat and totally operational? Should those jets all be put on a stick? The IRIAF needs Maverick? Leave your comments below!!!

Every Monday at 8PM ET, Mover (F-16, F/A-18, T-38, 737, helicopter pilot, author, cop, and wanna be race car driver) and Gonky (F/A-18, T-38, A320, dirt bike racer, author, and awesome dad) discuss everything from aviation to racing to life and anything in between.

I know i've said this before, but given how much of a hangar princess the Tomcat was, it's pretty remarkable that they've been managing to keep them flying this long with all the sanctions; especially considering all the action they saw during the Iran/Iraq war. Massive props to their engineers and ground crews

Favorite jet of all time. I'll never forget seeing the final demos at the El Toro, Point Mugu and Miramar shows in the 90's and 00's. Seeing this plane fly again would be beyond surreal!

Really sad to see the mighty Tomcat fading despite her glory days being behind her. There’ll never be another jet fighter with such exquisite lines and sheer impact upon the soul when witnessing her in the flesh. Bravo Grumman, in your swansong you created something truly magical in the Tomcat, a tour de force in engineering, aerodynamics and sheer beauty the likes of which the world will never see again. Magnificent.

I attended the Iran Air Show on the 10th. In fact, the Tomcat was in very bad condition. It showed only one fly pass and landed once during the 4-day air show. The flying display originally scheduled for the 12th was urgently cancelled after all ground preparations were completed.

Red is an unstable pigment - UV tends to be very hard on red pigments as evidenced by horizontal surfaces on red vehicles. After 5-10 years, you typically see the hoods, roofs, and trunk lids with either faded paint or the paint totally gone with primer showing through. Less so on garage-kept vehicles than those that spend all of their time under the sun.

How cool would an airshow be in the States including a F14, F4, SR-71(ridiculous logistics just to get engine started but hey) P38, P80, P51, F4U, Hellcat, as well as many other older jets we could keep running for flyby's, pattern flying, etc. Sure, expensive but what a show it could be.

The nose? Not the bugs and sand. And, I loved the way Gonky ignored Movers small tail comment! 😆

The fact is that the F4 will outlast the F14 in Iran, which was intended to replace. Shows what an icon the F4 Phantom is.

I saw an F-14 demo one time, and the announcer said both the pilot and RIO went to the Naval Academy, and both played in the NFL for a couple of years. Can't remember their names.

Interesting that a faded Tomcat had brand new English "Remove Before Flight" Tags

I and a few other fellow mechanic workers recovered an F-14
(approx 2012) on the ramp at work the Boeing St.Louis plant he was in transit the next morning we went outside and second shift placed several large drip pans under the plane she was a real leaker we called for Signature Aviation to bring a fuel truck for a fill up can’t give our fuel away. Later that afternoon the pilots showed up and we launched the plane I was the marshaler but before they got in the cockpit the pilot gave us all a nice patch and he said that this was the last F-14 plane in the U.S. Navy and we were the last to launch one and that the plane was headed somewhere to be put up on a pole I can’t remember where he was taking it. 🇺🇸🫡 it was an honor to be the last to launch her.
We were all F-15 mechanics and proud of it and they are still being made today 2024.

The first deliveries of the Tomcat to Iran were in 1976 during the Ford administration. Only 15 months after the first deliveries to US Fleet squadrons. That has to be a record for US sales of an advanced weapons system so soon after it was first delivered for US use.

Wish somehow the US can purchase or make a trade to take back the F-14 and get funding to preserve and upgrade it. That would be absolutely incredible, especially for airshows/aerial displays.
