Back in the late 70's. I contacted Wing Cmdr Wallis for help and advice in building an auto gyro as part of a school project. He couldn't have been more helpful
He invited me to see his collection which included a personal demonstration of him flying. He didn't suffer fools, however he was a most generous, talented engineer, inventor and a real Gent. We kept in touch until his death. R.I.P

When I was doing my autogyro training, I had a long conversation with Wing Commander Wallis. He was such a pleasant and knowledgeable man and a true gentleman.

This man built all his own flying machines. I just love to see Ken Wallis in action, he died in 2013 what a loss RIP sir.

My respect to this gentleman! It really is a shame that gyros haven’t saturated the aviation world. They have a proven track record for being safe, economical, and scaleable. One company in the USA built a demonstrator powered by a Rolls Royce turboprop engine. And of course there was the Fairey Rotodyne.

Inside every great man beats the heart of youth
For I once looked young just like you
My hair is now white and my steps may be slow
But let me fire up my plane
And to the sky I will go!

I watched it a long time ago on a different account, now I watched it again this day and this year 2024, so happy to be able to reminisce about that time, it was very beautiful until now🎉🎉🎉

What a champion.I take my hat off to this amazing man.I have an RC gyro copter and it's not the type of aircraft I usually fly.I have a rule.if it doesn't have a wing I don't fly it.my dad who passed away a few years ago was in the Royal Australian Airforce.he was a door gunner in a UH-1 in Vietnam.he also became a commercial heli pilot.as a kid he would drag me around Australia to test fly every helicopter u could imagine but his true love was the Huey.Great to see this video reminds me of my father who was 69 when he passed away and the only reason he didn't fly in his last year's was medical reasons.he was terminally ill with kidney failure.but I made sure before he died he got to fly one more time in his beloved Huey.it was a very special event with 3 ships in tight formation over the RAAF air base.memories I'll keep for ever.

A guy near Melbourne Australia had one of these . He did a flying demo at a special day at a small airfield south of Melbourne. My god he woke people up that day, probably near the best flying display, I have ever seen

He lived more of a life during one the most dangerous times of this generation serving his country and well beyond, we can assume Ken had learned many lessons with experience to balance risk and opportunity. So many of these characters push the envelope and take chances not to develop science or other, but have inspired others to challenge their boundaries and live.
The important thing here is to remember Ken took those chances and lived a very full life happy doing exactly what he wanted to do, I feel sure many could only dream of being so satisfied you just need a pulse.
