China's economy shrank by 2.6% in the April-June period, according to official data released on Friday.

The period was marked by lockdowns in Shanghai and other cities as China struggled to contain a coronavirus outbreak. This is the weakest quarterly growth registered by the country since the start of the pandemic.

That last part was funny.
Reporter: What about inflation?
China: what's inflation?

0.4% is the official number. That means their economy actually contracted.

How about second quarter GDP of Germany and US? I guess people will envy 0.4% when numbers of Germany and US are available 😄 it's noteworthy that those two don't have zero COVID policy 🤧

One could say that this is a good thing

How’s that 5% target coming along? China isn’t growing for a while: the real estate market which has been in a bubble for over a decade and is responsible for 35% of the GDP is finally in collapse. Projects are stalled, banks are freezing accounts, and people are defaulting on their mortgages everywhere.

I'm not suprised but this is not good for the global economy and our general outlook... it is also important to consider that this are CCP numbers, and therefor certainly extremely "optimistic"...

I don't get why China is going so crazy about this zero COVID thing. It seems to be doing a lot more harm than good. Why??

At least China's 0.4% is an increasement (while the CPI/inflation is 2%). On July 15, the GDPNow model's estimate of U.S. real GDP growth for the second quarter of 2022 was -1.5%, down from -1.2% on July 8, meanwhile the CPI/inflation of US is 8%~9%.

It is very important for China to rebalance its growth model and make it less investment dependent. Perhaps this gives it a chance. Better for its and the world's environment too.

When China🇨🇳 says "with 0.4% growth", its economy *contracted* at least 4%.
