2020 Polestar 1: Reviewing Price, Technology, Specs & More

Edmunds expert Kurt Niebuhr reviews Volvo’s 2020 Polestar 1. The Polestar 1 is the first vehicle from the Volvo sub-brand introduced for 2020. Kurt focuses on some of the unique elements of the Polestar 1. For one, it's Swedish and highly focused on style and design. Two, it has 619 horsepower. Kurt’s review also touches on the Polestar 1's price, 0-60 mph performance, and the special Polestar technologies in addition to other test numbers.

The new 2020 Polestar 1 is a thoroughly enjoyable and impressive halo car with an unmatched ability to switch between eco-friendly and aggressive thrust for a plug-in hybrid. But considering the Polestar 1's high price and lack of storage and rear-seat space, its appeal is undoubtedly limited.

"CFRP shaves 500 lbs off"
curb weight: 5, 170 lbs
So even after they put it on a diet, it's still heavier than a truck?! LOL

So no information about how many miles it can do on electric only mode, or how long does it take to charge...

Carbon Fiber everything ...and it's 5, 170 lbs !?!? That's like a Bentley weight. Crazy HP & TQ for a Volvo though

That's not how you pronounce Öhlins, the ö has the same vocalisation as the u in Saturday.

Yeah, that's what i tell the cop when i get pulled over. Sorry officer, but my car 5:39 "just accumulates speed." I couldn't help it.

The Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered is the successor to the Polestar 1. It is a much more affordable and practical vehicle being an estate.

Beautiful car, but too complicated to become a classic. In 10 years it will be a boat anchor.

At about the middle of the video... the brakes didnt get faded, 6:41 but i sure got faded.*yawn*... oh, and try not brag that it has roots in volvo, that's just completely unexciting.

This either sounds like an NSX, heavier, slower, and even more complicated for the same cost OR a Model S Performance heavier, slower, and even more complicated for $50k more. Both of which are terrible circumstances.

I found it interesting that you did not state the country in which it is built. I wonder if the interior comes with its own copy of Sars-CoV2-19.

I hate the idea of a car, A CAR, to be this heavy. But a Tesla Model S is approaching 5000 lbs too. This Volvo still has an engine to extend its range

Your HP numbers don't add up. 2:28 2:47 Your torque number do, but not the HP. How does 326 and 232 add up to 619hp? With my very complex buy yet simple PC calculator, it says they add up 558hp. Torque is indeed 384+354=739ftlbs. A 2.0 liter engine is not impressive to be only making 326hp, many cars do that, but the torque of 384ftlbs! now that's impressive.

I wouln´t want a V8 in this. I want this car to be a Volvo, and not a Polestar. And I want an inline 5 turbo engine with 400hp. After all the design DNA comes from Volvo P1800

I can't afford to buy their brochure...

2.3 tonnes! Heavier than a Range Rover and my dads old v12 760, not sure what a tank weighs but it's probably not far off. I do love Volvo and polestar so I'll give it a break. I'm not sure electric cars are the future. Sure they are a great stop gap to wean us off gasoline but I think ultimately the future belongs to hydrogen or both. You could utilise the existing fuel stations for hydrogen, quickly fuel up then be off on your way. Rather than waiting hours for the battery to charge.
