Teachers protest schools reopening amid pandemic

As the next academic school year approaches, many teachers are protesting out of concern that reopening schools will exacerbate the coronavirus pandemic. Nikole Killion reports.

i think it's funny that they think reopening schools is gonna force parents to send their kids back. i'm in high school and i've already applied to online school since my parents are older and are at high risk, so even if i got coronavirus and was asymptomatic i don't wanna risk killing my parents just because i want a social boost.

There’s lots of talk about the health and safety of the kids, but what about the adults who are at a much higher risk? If I get sick, I endanger my entire family including my parents who are in their 80s. Plus, all of my 150 students must be quarantined also. A couple of teacher in a school get the virus, and all of a sudden, 300 kids are in quarantine. We are not talking about the safety for one much loved kiddo, we are talking about an entire school and all of their family members. It’s a ripple down effect.

My child will not return to school. School system administrators should have gotten their idiot "leader" minds together and identified a proper way to teach online and used that system to figure out a way to get federal funding by some form of exemption instead of figuring out how to organize an already overcrowded classroom.

Children can get infected and they can bring home and infect parents and grandparents. Also this virus has long lasting effects that we still don't understand. I don't want to look my kids in the eye and tell them that reason that have something is because I sent them school in a pandemic.

I fearful of my child returning to school and bringing it home to me. I am someone who lives with autoimmune diseases and if he is a carrier, what he risks is greater than missing school for a couple of months.

Teachers new jobs will be running around the classroom putting kids masks back on all day. Making things also worse because they will be touching the kids faces and such. Very bad idea.
