I’m excited to share something I’ve been keeping under wraps for the past two weeks—Nikon’s collaboration with RED Digital Cinema! Nikon has just released four brand-new Creative LUTs and one Technical LUT, all designed to enhance your video workflow when shooting in N-Log with Nikon mirrorless cameras. These LUTs, created with RED’s famous color science, are completely free and can be used both as monitoring LUTs on set and finishing LUTs in post-production.

I’ll dive into each of the four Creative LUTs—Achromic, Film Bias, Film Bias Bleach Bypass, and Film Bias Offset—explaining how to use them on external monitors like the Atomos Ninja V, as well as in post-production with DaVinci Resolve. I'll also share color management tips to make sure you get the most accurate and cinematic results, along with my personal insights on optimizing your workflow.

Whether you’re aiming for a classic black-and-white look, a nostalgic film tone, or a dramatic, high-contrast aesthetic, these LUTs will help you elevate your Nikon footage to the next level.

All Nikon Cameras Capable of shooting NLOG can use these LUTs.

Quick Note: All cameras capable of shooting NLOG can use these LUTs. The Zf and Z6III ran off the screen when editing I guess. And if you turn off the input camera and use Legalize, you won’t need to change HDMI settings.

100% agree on the firmware updates mentioned. That blackout is absolutely ridiculous. Yes and AMEN on the view assist issues as well. Come on Nikon! Give the people what they want! Great video!

Ok, so you just managed to explain LUT application in the different colour-workflows better than some Davinci-centric channels. Absolutely awesome and well done!

Reminder N-log was developed in 2018, I believe it’s time for version #2 or even #3 of N-log, both Sony and canon have multiple versions of their log gamma curve. Also we need better tools for accurate white balance,

Hello! Thank you very much for your video, it was very helpful to me.
Just to see if I understood correctly, when I record in NLOG (NEV) and use DaVinci YRGB Color Managed, I edit as usual, but at the end, I transform the color space to REC 2020, then apply the RED LUT that transforms to Rec 709, and finally, I transform it back to Wide Gamut Intermediate.
it is that correct? thank youuuu again

Edit cause I finished the video. It would be so huge if Nikon gave us these to use in camera. The view assist currently stinks

The monitor dropouts are incredibly frustrating. I've actually stopped using external monitors for run-and-gun work with the Z9 because of this. The view assist is just awful; it's baffling how Nikon's technicians found that LUT acceptable. Come on, Nikon! You've added so many useful features through firmware updates—please address these straightforward issues.

Noob question here, new to davinci. When exporting the video file, what settings do you run?
I shoot Nikon Z8. The shadows are a lot darker when exporting.

do I get it right, that all those LUT's are only suitable for SDR-workflows, bc at the end they deliver a rec709 result?

@sidneybakergreen please forgive me for an amateur question, however I'm new to video and looking to film in a format that doesn't take up too much space for extended shooting for a wildlife documentary, I'm thinking h.265 10b NLOG, these lut's of course work with this format/profile? What would you suggest for importing this video into resolve? Thank you so much in advance
