I had been commissioned by one the UK's most prolific construction and utility companies to assist them in increasing production while decreasing accidents. I focused on using subconscious drivers, actions that were unspoken but very powerful in how they motivated employees to carry out certain actions. Rather than highlight poor behaviours (or at least using this method as the sole behavioural tool) I wanted to get the employees thinking. I wanted them to connect safety behaviours with a common thought of 'I don't want to be that guy who everyone is talking about/laughing at, behind my back'.

I created a series of short films that had examples of exaggerated poor behaviours within them. My aim was to show the behaviour and then get the employees to discuss how that behaviour was not acceptable without any direction from myself. Once they were discussing these points, I focused on the psychosocial need (for employees to be accepted by the group). By manipulating the process, the employees left thinking 'There's no way I am doing that as I would be held in poor regard by all of my co-workers'. I focused on the ego of the workers.

These sessions were reviewed as very successful and the client was extremely happy with the both the quality of the videos and the impact they delivered.
