The Trials and Transformations of The Whale

Brendan Fraser completely transformed himself for his role in The Whale! This movie marks his great return to Hollywood after years of keeping his distance, and considering the standing ovation that he received at the Venice International Film Festival. This movie was directed by Darren Aronofsky, who’s best known for his work with actors such as Natalie Portman in Black Swan and Jennifer Lawrence in Mother! It stars Sadie Sink, who you may recognize best from her role as Max on The Netflix series Stranger Things. Former child star Ty Simpkins returns to acting for the first time in years for The Whale as well. You may recognize Ty Simpkins from his recurring role as Harley Keener as a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hong Chau has had her own brush with the superhero genre as well, having previously appeared in the Watchmen series from HBO. Samantha Morton may be familiar to you from her roles in the AMC series Tales of the Walking Dead, or from her leading role in the Starz series The Serpent Queen. Sathya Sridharan has made appearances on the Netflix mini series Kaleidoscope, as well as the Apple TV+ series Little America. Huck Milner has been fortunate enough to work with the Walt Disney Company by providing the voice of Dash on the Incredibles, meaning that The Whale is his live action debut. Ryan Heinke has made appearances alongside Tim Allen in the Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, before going on to play Brett on Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s series Glee.

The premise of the movie's story, might, initially, make people reluctant to see it. However, the whole movie will take you on a raft of emotions, that very few movies have ever achieved. It is an awesome movie. Brendon's portrayal of the character is top notch.
The prosthetics and makeup used on Brendan are brilliant.
By the way - if you claim that movies never make you cry at the end - wait until you witness the final scene of this one.

This movie was amazing. As someone who struggles with my weight, it hurt to watch but they did it in such a way that they actually helped people. The OAC worked directly with Brendan and has received a record number of contacts since the movie premiered from people wanting to get help.

It's a fascinating watch, with an excellent cast at the top of their acting game. There are a few weak points here and there--especially with Charlie's wife and the way her stage-acting brings us back to how "The Whale" was originally a play. The ending also felt a tad too pat and melodramatic. Otherwise, a marvelous movie with Brendan Fraser a revelation.

Loved this movie. I thought the entire production created a captivatingly, gripping story depicting a typical person, when they realize they've really only have a few days left to make any difference. I found the story, the script, the actors, directing and entire production to be first class. It is a film that I will probably buy and watch again many, many times.
