Universities shouldn't be for profit. You're investing in your country's future.

This ain't uk, this is England. Scotland's tuition is free for any young person who's been living in Scotland for 5 years or more

As a Brit.
I’m disappointed at our government. These people are increasing everything from taxes to fees.

International student in UK here: all facts. Was a month late to my studies because of the stupid new visa rules. The visa is also over 5k now, that's on top of the 25k I pay for education.

England, not Scotland.
No fees in Scotland.
Not sure what Wales and N Ireland do.

If my country, Turkey, can still keep universities free despite all the economical problems, UK has no excuses.

This is missing a little bit of context!

1) This is England only
2) Fees in England used to be free, Labour inteoduced tiny fees under Blair. These were more than tripled by the Tory-Libdem Coalition in 2010.
3) Any and all grants available to students have been slowly stripped away due to 'austerity, ' meaning housing fees for University are no longer covered except by even larger loans.
4) Whilst the loans don't affect credit score, the payment threshold has been frozen meaning anyone who gets an inflationary payrise loses that lay rise to tuition repayments.
5) The interest rates attached to the loans are crazy, and there are currently 4 different payback/loan systems in place for people only one or two years different in age.

In Germany Universities are paid for by the government, I only have to pay 330 € per semester for the train ticket and some other minor fees.

Let's face it though, the job market in the UK has shifted to want experience over degrees, even for apprenticeship level. I know many people earning more without a degree, and those with a degree doing a lower paid job that has nothing to do with their degree. Degrees aren't the be all and end all.

Lowkey happy that university is free where I live. No one should have to pay to get education, that's kinda cruel.

Btw, the fees for 1 international student for 1 year is 3 times the fees for a UK student for 1 year. You cant expect the price of teaching students to remain the same year after year and pay all the people who work, run and teach in a university.
This may or may not help. Plus don't be fooled, the student loan in uk is not like US. Infact they are far better than what US and incoming international students face.
I got accepted to amazing UK Universities, but I rejected them because they were gonna charge me 32, 000£ per year for JUST TUTION FEES. The cost of living is seperate. Sadly this new law change is good in long term.

Edit: also be mindful of the fact that British people love to complain and nitpick even if things are normal. And the present situation in UK is far below normal.

Love how none of these videos ever quote the amount it's rising by. Just under £300 per year; no, it's not a small amount esp for a student but it's hardly the bid deal people are making it out to be.

The new rates are £9535 per year, an increase of £285 per year

Got to send money to Ukraine and to pay for all the new-comets, so there's no money left for old age pensioners or students.

Its so expensive to live at uni here in the UK half my friends are buying and sharing houses with friends instead of staying in the accomodation because buying a house actually ends up being cheaper than the acommodation.
