The Nike Free Metcon 5 is the fifth model to debut in Nike's popular Free Metcon training shoe line.

Since the original Nike Free Metcon shoe, I've been a fan of this training shoe line and I was super excited to put the Free Metcon 5 to the test. I was most curious to see if Nike tweaked the fit and sizing of this model.

In my Nike Free Metcon 5 review, I'll cover all of the key details that you need to know before buying these shoes.

0:00 Free Metcon 5 PROS
2:18 Free Metcon 5 CONS
3:58 Performance Assessment
6:56 Price
7:23 Who Should/Shouldn't Buy These?
8:29 Sizing and Fit
8:59 Weight, Drop, and Insole
9:14 Construction Breakdown
11:06 Final Remarks

Overall, I've been really happy with my Nike Free Metcon 5s and I enjoy the updates that have been made to this shoe.

The reworked upper and tongue give this shoe a more spacious fit and I think this shoe would do a better job of working for more foot anatomies.

If you're wanting a shoe for HIIT, classes, and light to moderate strength training, then I think you'll enjoy the Nike Free Metcon 5.

I don't buy many trainers but I still watch your videos, I kind of still want to know about them even if I can't afford them 😅

Wow thank you for doing this, I’ve been trying to find a fair assessment of this shoe for heavier lifting and this is the only one that has been useful. Keep it up!

Just bought these based on your recommendation, they're my favorite training shoe since the free x Metcon from around 5-6 years ago. Appreciate the advice!

I love that the 5 is more roomy. I have wide feet and the 4 kills me. After I watched your review, I bought the same awesome bright yellow color. Thank you for the great review

I just picked some up on sale at Nike outlet. I had a a pair of metcon 7 AMP for 3 years needing replacing. This is the first time I’ve strayed from the actual metcons. My favorite part is that I never lace my shoes in the gym, these are great for that. Anything heavy I have actual lifters. For everything else these are perfect.

Appreciate the review and just picked up a pair - good call and they’re a great gym shoe for my functional training needs 👍

Bro, was that a locked out knee, stiff leg box jump?

I got my ankle sprained, gonna restart my workout again.
You recommend for HIIT, a lot of jumping & multi directional training too? I love light weight shoes but still need some support.

*I returned my pair because the front of the shoes are incredibly tight. Also, they are not at all breathable. If you put your hand inside the shoe and blow on top of the shoe, you don’t feel any air going through.*

Hey Jake! These have been sold out forever and so I decided to go for the Nano x4s. When I go heavier on the squat, though, the narrowness of the nano makes my foot a bit hurting. Otherwise they're spectacular. How does nano x4 compare to the free metcon 5 for lifting? Are the metcons much less stable or just a little bit? And do these feel like soft running shoes or do they have some stabilization to them?

Hi Jake, thank you for the great review. I had fifth metatarsal foot fracture a year ago and thankfully could get back to routine hit workout after awhile. I was wondering what shoes you recommend to me for hit class. Thank you again.

I’m curious did any of your female viewers say they saw no difference in fit from the 4 to the 5. Sometimes nike only makes a shoe on a woman’s (narrow) last for men and women and just does a full size run off of it. The zoom gp turbo (tennis shoe) is like this I have very narrow feet and I’m a 12.5 in that shoe and the free mc 4 (and blazers and the city) but a 12 in LeBrons 21 and sometimes 11.5 in bb shoes with a knit upper (some very expensive lessons learned). So I might just be a straight up 12 in the free mc 5.

I’m not interested in the 6 based on what you’ve said about the increased cushion I actually really like the ground feel on the 4 since I only use them for some treadmill walking (warm up), jumps/plyos/sprints and low weight rdls, lunges and carries.

As for casual wear, lol I never wear them outside the car they only leave my gym bag when I get to the locker room. I can’t imagine wearing these all day and I cruise around in chuck 70’s most of the time (with a low profile orthotic). The minimal cushion is great for treadmill because treadmills have that bouncy feel to them but on asphalt gaaah.

Friend I hope you can answer me🥺 I am a little overweight, and I want to start going to the gym, I will do slow cardio on the treadmill, and exercises with weights, and I want them for daily gym use, that are comfortable for walking, do you recommend these nike free metcon 5 Or do you recommend other tennis shoes?

Hi Jake, im new in this of buying a correct shoe for workout, I always use my running shoes for everything. Im between this model and the nano x2 that its on sale, im looking for a shoe that have enough support for some weight lifting and body weight exercise (not heavy lifting at the moment) and 5km outsides runs on regular basis (3 to 4 times a week) what do you recommend ? You do a great job at here btw.

I usually don't like this color at all. But this combination has something. And their intense color. In reality, they seem much more beautiful to me than the black and gray ones.I bought them online and the package was so light in weight that I quickly opened it thinking it was an empty box.

Hello. between this model and the nano x3, which would be the most versatile? (classes, light weight lifting, short runs, and going for a walk with them)
