Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Chain - angle grinder test on one of our bike lock picks

preview_player
Показать описание

We tested bike locks by cutting through them with an angle grinder. We knew that all the locks would fall to the 7,000 rpm of an aluminum oxide disc—we just weren’t sure how long it would take.

Just a hint...'One-25s-cut' doesn't mean, the chain is 'open'
You have to make a second cut or make extra effort to break the chain link.

Yes, please retry using real world scenario. Like others have suggested, try it with a vice grip and battery power grinder. Your reputation could be repaired if you do. Thanks!

Yea ok. Now try that in the field without a vise, and a cordless grinder, trying to hold the chain with vice grips in your other hand while the chain continues to flop around. And make the two cuts necessary instead of the one. Good luck.

in reality it take an addict 5 or 10 minutes, but there's almost no penalty for trying and an enormous reward for succeeding

Chain dangling off the floor in the real world is alot harder than any U-bolt.

Yeah now try to do that with a loose chain with no vice, hastily, twice cause you need a slot big enough to actually get the chain out of link

You should have cut the chain not fixed like it would be in the street flopping around.

The thing is in a real situation you don't have these tool holder to cut the chain, and you will make a lot of noise, so if you leave your bike at a lonely place all night maybe thief cut your chain

Now do it without the vice and with a battery angle grinder. Good luck holding that chain steady enough to get it cut. That's what makes these chain locks a bit better than ULocks.

Surely if you have an angle grinder you would attack the bike stand. Miles quicker. Take a piece out and just slide the lock through. Thief can't ride away bike if lock goes through a wheel but they could chuck it in a van if they were prepared.

Imagine getting the chain to stick that still in public

Holy shit, this is inspiring me to never leave my $4, 000 segway GT2 out my sight at all times 😅

1st you need a 2nd cut to open the chain
2nd you neither have a vice when you try to steal a bike nor a good standing position, but you are kneeing on the ground and the chain is more flexible.

No do two cuts because one is usually not enough to get the bike. Also do it mid air with battery powered grinder and see what happens ...

All the guys talking about how the vice makes video pointless: give me a break! All you have to do it jam your foot against one part of the chain and then grind a link out. You guys act like a grinder blade is going to throw the chain around and that is totally wrong. The blade has no teeth. Zero. You can put one foot on the chain, cut a link in two places and boom, you’ve got a motorcycle. The problem for thieves is that with this chain you’re making them take more time and shoot more sparks. It’s about making them nervous and making it difficult. Plus, most thieves don’t have the grinder. The ones who do are using battery and they’re going to be trying to get the thing loose for longer than would make most dudes comfortable.

Lol, the advantage a chain has over a U lock is that a chain is not as easy to stabilise as a U lock for cutting. So obviously if you have a chain in a vice in a workshop on a bench it is going to be much easier to cut. Why these videos can’t show real life attempts on the street in daylight at night time is beyond me.

Have to do that TWICE or no takie stufie. Oh and remember a vise in your backpack.

I wud like to know if greasing the metal would stop the angle grinder from cutting
