I had forgotten the power and insights of Waldemar Januszczak's presentations. I cannot think of anyone that I would prefer to walk me through art history, and what a wonderful journey it has been.

I totally commiserate with his assessment of Newman. Saw a few Newman’s at MOMA in 2011 and they really hit you unexpectedly.

Mark Rothko‘s art is powerful because I have experienced it hiking in the sandstone canyons of Utah. That ancient blazing horizon of light.

As Waldemar Januszczak says at the beginning of his guided visit, it is "the exhibition of the year" - in the case of Abstract Expressionism, probably of the decade, and that is likely to be plural. Thanks to the capacity of the curatorial insight, obvious in the beautiful catalogue too, of a unique scholar who dedicated much of his professional life to the study of Abstract Expressionism, David Anfam.

Camera could use a small mounted front portrait light to render the slightly shadowy WJ in balance with the gallery backgrounds. Otherwise a lively and refreshingly educative presentation.

“Sense of depth and profundity” of Rothko, Still, and Newman? Hmmm...no. No matter how many of those pieces I see/experience, I get none of that from them. Diebenkorn, de Kooning, Pollack, Gorky...yes.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see all these remarkable and emotionally moving unique pieces of artwork together. However, part of the opportunity is sadly lost due to the POOR illumination considering the video’s
