Em 2021 tive o prazer de voar até à Ilha virgem de São Tomé, onde encontrei e provei o acolhimento generoso e bondoso da população de uma pequena comunidade na zona de Guadalupe. Tive a oportunidade de explorar e conviver com as pessoas de São Tomé onde aprendi sobre a sua forma de vida, costumes, e claro, diversão.

De longe um dos sítios mais bonitos e puros onde já estive, a ilha é completamente despida de grandes indústrias, o que preserva a sua virgindade a estado natural, é possível ler e reviver um pouco a história de São Tomé, visitando as roças com os restos de edíficos e fortificações coloniais.

Acompanhei a associação Kêlê, uma organização sem fins lucrativos cuja ação é crucial na zona de Guadalupe, tendo como principal missão combater o abandono escolar.

A Associação Kêlê é uma associação sem fins lucrativos que surgiu no final de 2020 como resultado de uma vontade enorme de continuar a missão que havia sido começada em São Tomé e Príncipe no início do mesmo ano. Madalena Nogueira, Inês Caldeirón e Rute Madureira estiveram durante 6 meses dedicadas a um projeto de voluntariado focado no apoio escolar e social, cooperando com as Irmãs Franciscanas Missionárias de Guadalupe.

No seguimento do trabalho realizado e dos resultados obtidos, decidiram criar a sua própria associação. A Associação Kêlê destina-se a promover a melhoria da qualidade de vida da população, procurando garantir o acesso à educação inclusiva e de qualidade, diminuir o abandono escolar precoce, a redução das desigualdades através de projetos e atividades de caráter social, educativo e cultural, e o acesso a bens de primeira necessidade como alimentos e vestuário, entre outros.

In 2021, I had the pleasure of flying to the virgin island of São Tomé, where I found and tasted the generosity and kindness of the population of the small community in the Guadalupe area. I had the opportunity to explore and live with the people of São Tomé, where I learned their way of life, traditions and fun.

By far one of the most beautiful places I've been, it's completely naked and free from any big Industries, which preserves its virginity in its natural state, it's also possible to relive a little bit the history of São Tomé, by visiting the roças where the remains of colonial buildings and fortifications can be seen.

In this journey, I followed Kêlê association, a non-profit organization whose action is crucial in the Guadalupe area, where the main fight against is education and school dropout.

Associação Kêlê is a non-profit association that emerged at the end of 2020 as a result of a huge desire to continue the mission that had started in São Tomé and Príncipe at the beginning of the same year. Madalena Nogueira, Inês Caldeirón e Rute Madureira were, for over a period of 6 months, dedicated to a volunteering project focused on the school and social support, cooperating with the Guadalupe Missionary Sisters.

As a result of the work carried out and the results obtained, they decided t create their own Associação. The Kêlê Association aims to promote the improvement of the population's quality of life, guaranteeing quality through access to inclusiveness and quality, the reduction of early school leaving projects, the reduction of inequalities in education and social activities, education and culture, and access to basic necessities such as food and clothing, among others.
