How a Boy Who's 'Never Made a Sub' Invented Subway

Subway is the biggest fast-food chain on the planet. The chain knocked down McDonald’s and KFC’s store count decades ago and has more than 44,000 stores in 110 countries. And it all started with a 17-year-old from the Bronx who had never made a sub in his life until opening day. He struggled for years before finding a way to make billions of dollars. And it’s all because of a message scribbled in a notebook.

Prime example that having a proper role-model / conversation / trusted person can change ur whole mentality and have an amazing ripple effect... This is why being a mentor / trusted friend/ unconditionally loved family member is soooo important ... Respect!

"never made a sub in his life" This must be why Subway employees look at me like I'm a lunatic when I ask for them to put the mayo on the bread.

I love hearing someone grinding for decades and made a lot of investments and tough choices and then later in life it paid off. It’s motivating.

Sadly the original Bridgeport location closed awhile back. My father was high school pals with Fred. The original locations were so much tastier than todays Subway they all had that iconic wall paper of a map of the nyc subway tunnels. The bread tasted so much better back in the day before it was a huge franchise. I worked as an art director for the Milford CT corporate world headquarters. It’s crazy how far Fred took the brand. RIP Fred. Great video. 👍

Fred and Pete took a decade to come up with their methods and procedures. When subway began franchising they really knew how to run a sub shop well.

I was 17 when I worked for the subway and trust me that was the worse experience I ever had in my life, like low wages with no weekend holidays plus extra unpaid hours of work

Isn't it a weird occasion that fast food places are made and usually come from people who are poor broke or ran away from home?
