PITLOCHRY DAM VISITOR CENTRE
Pitlochry
Perthshire

Situated on the banks of the River Tummel, the centre features a gift shop and café with jaw dropping views of Pitlochry Dam and Loch Faskally. It is currently open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00am - 4:30pm with free admission and free Wi-Fi.

SSE's Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre opened in January 2017 and has welcomed over 300,000 visitors to date. The free to enter attraction tells the story of the amazing engineering feats that first brought hydro electricity to the Highlands in the 1950s and transformed lives forever.

Thanks to its innovative design, the centre and 60 seat café appears to 'hover' off the ground, providing breath-taking views of the working hydro station, dam and River Tummel below. The interactive exhibits in the centre also demonstrates how energy is harnessed from nature using wind and water and turned into electricity.

Visitors young and old enjoy discovering the secrets of the annual journey made by salmon when they return to their native Perthshire rivers to spawn and the part played by the salmon ladder, which has been crossed by over 250,000 salmon since it was built in 1952.

Children can move salmon up the ladder themselves thanks to the ‘hands on’ display as well as charge up a light bulb themselves, to experience how we can create the power of electricity.

All visitors can enjoy soaking up the views from the stunning balcony which projects eight metres from the river bank, and the café is a family friendly space
