Glad to see you doing better and adapting your gardening to fit your current circumstances. Much love from Michigan as we settle in for some chilly weather.

Hi Rob, if you want shoots with high sugar content you need to pick late in the day. Early morning, before the sun comes up is when sugars are st their lowest because the plant uses sugars during the dark. Photosynthesis turns carbon dioxide (and other nutrients) into sugars. When there is no sunlight the plant uses up sugar.

Glad to hear the fish are doing better & that the aggression level has settled. I wonder if your settler is going to have less solids collected & if that means more gunk in your MBBR… Beat believe I’m staying tuned for this one....😏

Howdy Rob. We’re going into winter here already had some -10 C nights. Fish tank down to about 10C, well within the bluegill zone. Haven’t had flies to feed them so they’ve had to eat the fish pellets they will eat with much less enthusiasm. They have doubled in size in a couple of months, but only have 34 (one died a few days after their 2 day transport) in a 1300 liter tank. Fish density is much less than your system and hopefully they are better behaved. Planning on adding submerged structures (rocks) and scavengers.
The flow is on a loop using two pumps from the sump: one for the media beds, then the return to the sump through a large 15cm catchment tube with the intake for the aquarium pump at the base. Small holes in the tube to allow excess water to diffuse back to the sump (media bed pump is larger than the fish tank pump). The fish tank drains back to the sump through a settling tank pretty much like your’s.
The sump and beds are in a greenhouse but it’s gotten down to 0 C a couple of nights already. Tomatoes (golden nuggets are allegedly the sweetest and up to 2.5+ cm. big) strawberries and onions still being harvested.
It’s been an experiment and planning on changing things around after winter.
Stay safe and watch out for those spores!

Cheers Rob, 👍🏻 Thank You. Never had mites over here in the system (uk 🇬🇧) but I use a weak Bio degradable washing up liquid solution in a spray bottle and it works well for most other pests. It doesn't seem to have an affect on the water quality.

Hello from the other side of the world. 33C sounds nice but I'm guessing its too hot for the plants.
Good luck with the chook mites too 👍

Have you tried a hydrogen peroxide solution on the mites? Had pretty good results with just a hand sprayer 20%. My days never get too hot here however..
Interesting to see the microshot! Hope you've recovered as well as your fish have. Cheers mate
