Bay Area commercial fishers say they are facing unprecedented financial hardships this year after dealing with a range of restrictions on several of their key catches.

Understand the pain of the captain but he needs understand salmon needs to reproduce to keep the cycle going. You snatch up the salmon population, there won’t be any more to fish and guess what, you’ll be out of a job permanently. Take the hit for a season and then when it opens back up you’ll being thriving again.

I feel for the captain, but if you're going to rely mostly on a single type of fish that is regulated based on population you are asking for financial troubles, yeah it sucks that "guys have mortgages" but how's those mortgage going to work out if 10 years down the line there's almost no salmon because overfishing doesn't let the population rebound?

We need to take care of the fishery’s!!
If you take and take and destroy your bounty it will be harder and harder to get it back! Work with officials, help track, help diversify! If it’s about income now, go and deplete/destroy without foresight/ outlook and planning for the future!

No one of the fishermen I know from half-moon Bay lives with his parents by the coast. Or they live on their boat.
Oh! And he ripped off my boyfriend when he went fishing with them.
Sorry fisherman...nice try with your "mortgage" that doesn't exist 😂😂
