Blackberries are abundant in late summers in San Francisco. They love the rocky cool coastal climate and grow in abundance. This recipe is made without pectin and I use fresh sage to compliment this blackberry jam perfectly well and you will never go back to store-bought jam after canning your own.

If you're looking for pairings, blackberries pair excellent with cream and ice cream, lemon, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and yogurt.

• 3 cups of blackberries
• 1.5-2 cups of sugar
• 7-10 fresh sage leaves
• Zest and juice of 1 lemon
• Optional: 1.5 oz of liquid pectin

I just started making blueberry strawberry jam with xylitol. Didn’t realize how easy it is to make sugar free jam. I usually like mine a little thicker.
