Axe Fx II still relevant today, love it.

might be the tone you dialed in here but the neural plugin sounds more hollow to me, which is something I almost never say about Neural plugins. in this comparison, between the tones you dialed the AxeFX sounded better.

I actually prefer the brighter highs of the Neural but the mids of the Fractal are so much richer

I love neural and fractal… but something about fractals resonates with me. This video was well executed.

I love neural DSP plugins. But man, the Axe Fx wins by far on this one.

With technology these days, either or will be suitable. I have a fm3 ran into a powerstage and a omega cab and to me its the best sounding thing ever but those neural dsp plugins are amazing.

It`s hard to compare normal Peavey emulation vs modded, can`t even decide which sounds better. Perhaps Peavey from Gojira would be better choice. Sick riffs btw!

I have watched a couple of Nolly’s mixing tutorials. This is his thing to have a bit of hiss and let’s say air in the distorted sound. The same thing with scooped mids. Archetype Plini has another 5150 style amp and it sounds different, with more midrange and punch I would say. I am pretty sure that a good sound engineer can create a masterpiece of both sounds. I wouldn’t spend money on axe unless I needed to play live because it just not really convenient and stable to take a laptop to a gig

I love the nolly sound, a lot more raw and authentic

Id say very close considering the cost of nolly vs Axe - BUT: Nolly sounds a little muddy in the high end and the AxeFx2 has more "Punch". I would go for the Axefx2. Or to be precise, I have the AxeFx3. And Nolly and all other NDSP Plugins. But cool video!

Would be interested in hearing both of these back to back using the same cabinet IR.

The axe to my ears actually has way more of a thicker bite and is way less fizzy

Not sure what it is exactly, but the Neural plugin does not sound right in this video. I've used the demo myself and heard it played in other videos, and in this video it's missing a ton of midrange compared to what I've personally experienced. I see that you used the same IR, though, so I'm a bit surprised. Maybe the plugin and the AxeFX just don't do the same thing to the IR in the same way.

What was your signal chain for this please? Any valve preamps being used?

There's an annoying fizz behind the DSP distortion... its completely absent on the Axe.

Axe FX sounds more like a real amp whilst Neural sounds more digital = )

Cleans the axe sounds better, distorted they're close enough.
