The Living Tombstone - 'Malibu Pier' Official Video

There's a special story behind this song! We wrote this - and the rest of this album - at a cottage in Malibu over the course of a week, and used real field recordings from the beach in this song. That cottage actually burned down two years later in the Palisades Fire! As a result, we're donating $10k to LA Food Bank's fund for fire relief as well as 50% of this year's revenue from this song. ❤️

TL;DR: Lyrics are bout a rich guy waiting for his death, in a comfortable numbness.

This song isn’t just the guys “chilling at the beach”—it’s like they're dissociating at the edge of societal collapse...
Malibu Pier isn’t a vacation spot, it’s the last structure sticking out from the rising tides. Wealth can’t stop climate disaster; the markets crash, cities drown...

Money lost all value before nature and death.

My take is that the song is taking the POV of a rich guy left numbly admiring the end, taking the chaos ironically—“it’s kind of pretty.” He's waiting by the sea side, comfortably, waiting for his inevitable death. They thought money could buy everything, they thought they were invincible, but deep down, they know they'll die like we do.
