ChinaFile Presents Two Documentary Films From China

In collaboration with the news and documentary program at the NYU journalism institute,
ChinaFile presented a public screening and discussion of two films by young directors from China.

Emergency Room, directed and produced by Siyi Chen, goes inside a hospital in a second-tier city along China’s east coast, providing an observation on Chinese patient-doctor relationship and the current public healthcare system.

Directed and produced by Qingzi Fan, One Way Home follows two Tibetan children chosen to study in a Shanghai boarding school exclusively for Tibetan students. Besides showing how these students study really hard to stay in Shanghai to receive a better education, the documentary also presents how this generation of Tibetan kids go through a loss of their own language while embracing China’s popular culture.
