In this video, we intentionally obstructed a pendant sprinkler and aim to demonstrate the resulting distortion to the spray pattern. Through this demonstration, you can observe the noticeable alteration in the sprinkler's spray pattern caused by the obstruction.

NFPA 13 requires 18” clearance from PENDANT fire sprinkler deflector. In the video you can see the interruption caused by the obstruction which is a 5 gallon bucket use as obstruction to the sprinkler.

NFPA Code (2010): 8.5.5.2.1 Continuous or noncontinuous obstructions less than or equal to 18 in. (457 mm) below the sprinkler deflector that prevent the pattern from fully developing shall comply with 8.5.5.2.
