I don't think Ego lifting has to be too much weight or doing a weight I can't handle. I did an AMRAP 1 plate on the deadlift last night for 62 reps. I only did it because my mates were there. It didn't hurt and I was in no way at risk of injury. I actually mentioned your World Record as inspiration for doing this sort of high rep stuff form time to time. ALways love seeing people say I think youll get 20. Im guessing 24 then you bang out 62 and they have no words. Was I doing ti to show off a bit? Yeah of course but it was a hell of a set.

For example if you can bench 225 for a set of 12 clean full reps. Stick with that don’t put 315 on and almost tear a pec or hurt your shoulder. Be smart and try 275 for a set of 6-8 work smarter!

As a 51 year old I'm so jealous of guys in their 20s and 30s. They just need to look at a weight and they get jacked and lean. I member.

Ego lifting is way less of a problem in the gym than people lifting waaaay too light. Ego lifting really only occurs on social media, and lazy people use ‘not ego lifting’ as an excuse to do easy, pointless workouts.

I think there is a mixture between the two camps. I think if you're overly focused on form and stopping at technical failure that you are possibly leaving gains on the table.

I also think that if you are totally disregarding form and loading up weight to impress people that you are looking to hurt yourself.

With that being said you showed Sam when you said ego lifting. But Sam is not doing this to impress anybody. He's going beyond technical failure and pushing to true failure. Which I think has merit. It's one thing to try to impress people and allow your spine to get out of alignment, it's another thing to do partial reps after you no longer can do a full range of motion

Ego posting: You see someone breaking all your rules, you take it personally, and then you want to tare that someone down

Ego lifting is more typically picking up your one rep max and doing it for 8 fake reps, but I definitely think that ego lifting is great for gaining strength if you can do it for a few good reps, and it’s kind of fun. I went from 35s to 40s for dumbbell benchpress in one week
