Chicago mayor breaks promise, raises taxes for teachers union

Broken promises cost trust.

Here's how Brandon Johnson’s $17.3 billion budget does just that:

By raising property taxes by $300 million and burdening residents even more, despite campaigning on a promise not to increase property taxes.

He chose tax hikes over responsible reforms.

This leaves Chicago’s pension crisis untouched and its police force facing cuts amid rising crime.

Illinois Policy Institute Vice President of Marketing Austin Berg joined @NBCChicago to discuss.

Um, damn near half of students don't show to class, 1 in 4 can't read or do mathematics at grade level, and these idiots want a raise? They should all be fired.

Its astounding that anyone reports this as unusual, , , when Chicago prides itself on being dishonorable.

Imagine a world where you can have no prior business experience, little to no political experience, win a popularity contest, and then get to run a world class city 😂😂😂

Resumes don’t count in politics

Chicago is a beautiful city, food is top tier, and the people are amazing! Unfortunately, politics keep the city in dissary.

It would be nice before raising taxes they would pull out their budget and show the citizens where they actually handle the money properly to begin with.

The City of Chicago is in a tail spin. My home town is in ruins. The last three mayors have brought this city to it's knees. I knew when Richard M. Daley retired that we were in trouble. And here it is. Chicago is quickly falling apart.

Remember when George Bush the 1st said, "Read My Lips, NO NEW TAXES"? And then he signed the Congressional spending package that created new taxes. Voters wisely limited him to one term. They threw his butt out. We need to do the same, and not with just Mayor Johnson, but with all elected leaders who spend our money like it's a limitless credit card.

A musical chairs game with our tax dollars. Dont just pass a budget, pass a balanced budget and cut the waste and spending.
