I can’t even imagine what it feels like to carry that huge rack around. Gorgeous animals, I love elk.

Can you imagine how large his next set are going to be. No wonder they get all lopsided initially when they only throw one antler.

That’s when I come running out of the bushes and grab the sheds and yell
“Thank you Elk!!” And head home to mount them beautiful things on my wall.

Good one WOV. They drop their antlers each year and they refuse to lose their appetite. To lose their antlers has to be a strain relief on the bulls' necks eh?

After reading some of these comments, I think there is a huge lack of knowledge of NATURE. People, get off your games, your iPad or your phones and get out in the woods. Mother Nature is amazing.

I wonder if it hurts when they snap off.

Unusual fact about deer antlers:

In order to grow them, the males suffer osteoperosis as a result of most of their calcium going straight to their antlers during growth. Their skeleton even get stripped of calcium, so they are more liable to fracture a bone.

Needless to say, it must be a huge relief to be free of their antlers.
