Doom Delta is the closest to Tom Hall's vision being realized (Because other projects like Tei Tenga Incident weren't finished, though DD is a gameplay mod, so no maps).
But the Probjectile is not in Delta, probably because it can feel weird.
Maybe it'd suit a more "tactical" Doom experience where the player shoots a thing to get enemy stats in hopes it doesn't alert them.

That HUD, even if too detailed, looks cool and it represents the "low tech" vibe of classic Doom, compared to 2016 having that holographic thing.

As usual: Romero had more to share but id somehow told him to stop.
This at least works as yet another arguement against an official Doom 1/2 remaster.

Also, that Doomguy sketch by Adrian is essentially how he'd look like in "HD" if you don't count the box art design by Don Ivan Punchatz.
Don't forget the weird way how the BFG worked: The mods DAKKA and Babel for Doom technically have "spread fire" BFG's but better versions of the unused fire.

One weird detail that’s never discussed is that we see the zombie soldiers holding machine guns but when you kill them you can never use them but they do drop ammo for your pistol or chain gun We also see Doomguy in third person wielding a machine gun but we never physically use it in third person so basically the machine gun exist in the game but you can’t use it I am honestly glad we get to finally use it in doom 2016

It's funny, there's a leaked weapon HUD icon for Doom 4 that looks similar to that BFG 2704 icon silhouette. It looked almost like a modern version of it.

The HUD reminds me of "Terra Nova:Strike Force Centauri" a 1996 tactical FPS by LookingGlass studios
the same developers behind System Shock which would later inspire 2K to create the hit 2007 immersive sim "Bioshock"
