Honda’s Marc Marquez and his ongoing battle with a serious arm injury has sparked plenty of debate about his competitiveness. Marc Marquez Can Win With “One Hand” - Doohan

Doohan pointed out that Marc has won races even after getting injured

“It's not easy, it never is, sport waits for no one but he's already shown that, basically, he can win races with one arm”

He then explained why he believes Marc can win again

“Mentally he is very strong; he won six MotoGP titles and you can't do that if you're soft. He's one of the best of all time. Until the moment he decided to stop, he was still among the fastest”

He then spoke about Marc’s future in the sport

“I have no problem with him coming back after six months, doing some tests, getting back in shape and being able to compete with whoever is in front of him”

“How old is he, 29 years old? In fact, he is still young. If he is physically fit, if he can compete at the highest level and if he can win with one arm... with two arms and two legs I believe he is capable of doing it”

He signed off by elaborating why Marc should be given the freedom to decide when he should stop

“Marc doesn't know if he will be able to win when he comes back and he deserves to have that chance with himself. I'm sure he can, and I'm sure he made the right decision”

Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia explained that “at the beginning of the season [they] expected a bit more” [GQ Italia]

“But it wasn't easy because there were various difficulties on a technical level which we then managed to solve”

“I've either won the last few races or I've crashed, so it's not exactly the best. But the important thing is to know that we are so fast and in the second half of the season it will be important to find continuity”

Gresini’s Enea Bastianini suggested that “the Gresini team is like a family”

“I am convinced that Alex [Marquez] will quickly adapt to the bike and the team”

“For me, he will be an extra rival and I am convinced that we will see the real Alex Marquez”

Aprilia’s Aleix Espargarò stated that they “are now in a position to constantly fight with the best in the world” [Motorsport-Total]

Teammate Maverick Vinales added that he believes “in this project and [is] happy to be a part of it”

“I’ve found a fantastic environment at Aprilia and this confirmation [of contract renewal] gives me the security to develop as the team and I deserve”

Ducati’s Jack Miller explained that he “benefited from the fact that in Cal Crutchlow at LCR I found a teammate who trained a lot and helped me a lot” [Speedweek]

“He made it very clear to me what you need to invest in [preparation] if you want to be successful in MotoGP. I realized that quickly”

Will Pecco Bagnaia be able to bounce back in the championship fight?

Doohan ought to know. Remember him? Doohan couldn't even walk to his bike in 1992 for the last few races. Then goes on to be 5-time world champion. Doohan knows, i go with him.

Almost like what Miller said about Marc last year. He said, “He came back and smoked us with one arm!”

Repsol Honda needs to make him just 30% comfortable. This guy gonna grab everything. As long as FQ20 doing his stuff getting matured with that limited factory Yamaha, comparing to the powerful Ducatis(with due respect to the riders), I still believe he's gonna make a great comeback.. Come back soon MM93. Please remind me of VR46, DP26, JL99 and you with your comeback. From a true Yamaha VR46 die hard fan. We need you in Motogp.

So I guess Mick could have played professional football at the highest level with his leg? Sorry but it's comments like that which got Marc back on a bike a week after his injury. I'm honestly surprised it's even being considered for him to return until 2024. He's young enough and will certainly be in about the best shape he'll ever be able to return to.

Things in motoGP are constantly evolving. Marc may win some races but the championship is not an easy meal anymore. Fabio is a mature rider and hard fitting person. Considering next years Yamaha bike, I think is going to be interesting.
If Dorna stops supporting only the Italian brands and see the championship as a global effort with the rest of the brands then is going to be exciting. Otherwise motoGP will fade and doomed to an end.
In my opinion Dorna must walk away from this championship..

As he gets older his riding will change. If those changes aren't matched with the changes in the bike, he'll struggle.

I don't see how he can come back to his dominating self. Best case is he would be neck-to-neck with Fabio and pull out 1 more championship. Worse case would be contending with the likes of Enea, Martin, Pecco and one of the guys from Aprilia in addition to Fabio each and every race and ending up top 5.

He might get back to being physically fit enough but will never be mentally there again always worried about pushing 100% and re-injuring his arm, never be what he was.

A fit MM with his 2019 bike beats everyone. Look at COTA this year injury, shit bike and puts it on Fabio. MM is better than Fabio, Pecco etc

If he can win with one arm then why doesn't he won the championship in the last 2 years ?

MM's body is broken. I hope he does the right thing and retires so he doesn't die on the track. It's irresponsible and dangerous for MM to continue. Dorna will try and milk him for all he's worth even if they kill him.

Write off a fully fit Marquez at your peril 🏍💨💨

Sorry but Mark will never be able to ride the bike like he used to, besides the bike is now undergoing major changes as it is a dog, his days are over.

Hilarious, all the keyboard experts that think they know more than Mick Doohan
Absolutely hilarious

I hear & respect Doohan, but I also think these bikes with aero makes them even harder to ride than Doohan’s days.
But MM can definitely win again!
