I’m a respiratory therapist of 6 years. Changed my major several times. Part of me wishes to go back, but working 3 days a week, I can’t complain that much.

Maybe it's late to comment, and this is really motivated me. I just wanna say that i'm an employed RT, and i'm working to get the financial support to apply for med school, and hell yeah i took me 5 years, but i think now it's the time with my ability to pay for med school which is very expensive. Lastly, i thank my career to have me stand on its back to reach my dream. (Never too late)
Thank you so much.. 💙

Totally agree. I have been an RRT for a lot of years and have worked overseas and in the US for over 30 years. I started my own company doing Respiratory and it was invaluable. I went back and finished my BA in Business and Entrepreneurship. Currently working on certifications in Accounting. All in all I MUCH prefer business over working in the hospitals. If you get your RRT and just stop learning, you may do ok. I would highly encourage people to continue as a life long learner and keep learning more and more. The people I have seen that were the happiest in the RT field are those that do keep learning. The ones that get embittered and hate the field are usually ones that just stagnate and don't learn as they age. One thing to consider is that ageism in Respiratory is very real. Even though older therapists have more knowledge than the newer grads, newer grads can be "molded" and can be paid cheaper wages. It gets very frustrating to be a very experienced and educated RT and to look for a job in which you may be viewed as overqualified. Entering back into the field after being out for a long time is also VERY difficult. In nursing, they have refresher courses for people re-entering the field. I have not seen those for RTs. Just a little insight from my experience...keep in mind, other RTs may have VERY DIFFERENT viewpoints than mine.

I’m torn between Dental Hygiene and RT 😅 I’m completing my basics and will be done this summer for a 2 year competitive program for Dental hygiene but the issue is the Dental hygiene program is 40 hours a week and I have to work to support myself so I may be doing RT for that reason then staying in school to become a PA.

Thank you for making this video I needed to hear this. When I first started college I desired to be a midwife I still have the desire. For me to become a Midwife I have to obtain a master’s degree in nursing so I did apply to the nursing program 12 years ago but I didn’t get in so the semester after I applied to the respiratory care program am I got in so I became an RT. I did do my research prior on what my duties, job growth, and salary so I told myself ok I will do that. So far the most joy i have working as a Respiratory therapist is when I work with children. I am trying my best not to regret going into respiratory school instead of nursing. I am debating on going back to college in the nursing field and start the bridge program RT to RN so I can become a midwife but the BSN program I will be in class all day for two years and hospital doing hands on. I am 40 now working a government job so I am thinking about retirement and medical insurance so I not sure how it will work but maybe I can get my A S in nursing and see what the future holds. I am also thinking about going back to college for my BS in Respiratory Care so I can become a supervisor or teacher. I have been working as a Respiratory therapist for 10 years now so much to decide. I am thankful for the job I brought my first house at 33 sold it 2 years ago and brought another house a couple of months ago so I am thankful.

PT requires a doctorate, now. U cannot get a license without a DPT degree. It's gonna be a long time before a bachelors degree is required for RT.

Everything happens for a reason like you said bro. If I had the financial support I wouldn't have this drive to make it out

I'm thinking about going to RT school. I was doing phlebotomy but now I do manufacturing for a pharmaceutical company I don't see myself being at this company for the rest of my life. I'm really thinking about going to school I'm scared tho because I wasn't the smartest in highschool I made terrible grades 🤦🏾‍♀️

I'm having this problem now. I want to consider a job in the medical field but they all start at $40k and require a masters degree. Considering my options

#!- You definitely fooled me bro, I coulda SWORE you were gonna say "GOTCHA!, OF COURSE id still be a RT!" lol. I'm surprised to hear this one.
#2- Becoming a Dentist, you actually have the financial support Your RT license can support you through it! Maybe work 1 day a week, maybe even 2 days a week, and if necessary you can only do those 2 days on he weekends, and then study during the week, and whatever extra studying you can get on the weekend you can add that to it. If being a Dentist s really what you want really think you can do it.

And it seems like you already have all the stuff you and your family needs, material-wise (house, cars, etc), so during this time you'd only have to be "maintaining", which costs much less than tryna Ball, Elevate ad Upgrade. I think you can do it bro. And if not Dentist you can enter into NURSING and gradually climb that ladder. Either way I'm pretty sure you can do it.
