Focus On Dropping Your Racket Head

I've been having a lot of success recently with focusing on dropping the racket head when playing drives from the back.

When swinging, it happens more or less naturally, depending on your skill level, but just a little extra focus brings big rewards.

You can even isolate the drop motion by starting in a dropped position.

Just remember to rotate your forearm, NOT flick your wrist.

This motion allows you to generate more power from short swings AND opens your options for crosscourt shots.

I am an intermediate player. I have found it very useful to consciously put my racquet into that "dropped" position as the beginning of my swing - both forehand and backhand. Lately, I have been working on those positions as I do the figure 8 volley exercise.

good video! but it seems like your losing your wrist A LOT on the follow through. holding your wrist to point to where you want to hit it can help

I think about "throwing" the front edge of the racket towards the front wall, as if I'm throwing a ball (or as if throwing a frisbee on the backhand side). I think the effect is similar to dropping the racket head as you're doing here. Helps generate momentum from a compact swing and controlling the ball since you're naturally following through if you're thinking about striking the ball in a throwing motion.

You look like you have a hell of a lot of pronation in your swing/form. Random observation for you :P
