WORLD WATER DAY [ΠΕΜ | THU 21/3 - 20:30]
H 22η Μαρτίου έχει καθιερωθεί από τον ΟΗΕ ως Παγκόσμια Ημέρα για το Νερό, με το σύνθημα φέτος να είναι «Να μην μείνει κανείς πίσω (Ανθρώπινα Δικαιώματα και Πρόσφυγες)» ενώ ο Μάρτιος είναι επίσης ο διεθνής μήνας αφιερωμένος στη Γαλλοφωνία. Επιπρόσθετα, στις 25 του Μάρτη φέτος ολοκληρώνονται ακριβώς 101 χρόνια από τον θάνατο του Claude Debussy, κι έτσι η Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα Κύπρου περιλαμβάνει στη συναυλία της αυτή και το τρίπτυχο «Η Θάλασσα» του Γάλλου συνθέτη, παίρνοντας μας από τη χαραυγή μέχρι το μεσημέρι, στο παιγνίδισμα των κυμάτων και στον διάλογο μεταξύ του ανέμου και της θάλασσας. Με το νερό ωστόσο να είναι το γενικό θέμα της συναυλίας, ξεκινάμε με την επώνυμη σουίτα του Handel που πρωτακούστηκε επάνω σε φορτηγίδες στον ποταμό Τάμεση το 1717, ενώ το κεντρικό έργο είναι το «Κοντσέρτο του Νερού» του σύγχρονου μας Κινέζου συνθέτη Tan Dun.

The 22nd March has been designated by the UN as the World Water Day, with this year’s theme being “Leaving No One Behind (Human Rights and Refugees)” whilst March is also the international month of the Francophonie. In addition, March 25th this year marks 101 years to the day since the death of Claude Debussy, so it should come as no surprise that the CySO incorporates, in this programme, the French composer’s “Sea” triptych, taking us from dawn to noon, to the play of the waves and to the dialogue between the wind and the sea. Water, however, is the overall theme of the concert, which begins with the eponymous Handel suite first heard on barges on the River Thames in 1717, and features, as a centerpiece, contemporary Chinese composer Tan Dun’s “Water Concerto”.
