Igor Levit | Recital

“This Beethoven jumps up at us, grabs us by the ears, and thoroughly shakes us up,” Christian Wildhagen wrote in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung about Igor Levit’s complete cycle of the composer’s 32 piano sonatas at LUCERNE FESTIVAL, adding that the pianist would be the great new hope for the 2020 Beethoven Year. In the fifth of eight concerts comprising the cycle, Levit presented two of the best-known Beethoven sonatas. He opened the recital with the revolutionary Tempest Sonata, which builds all three movements up from an arpeggio.
