This one of those songs that doesn't sound too bad as long you don't understand a word they're saying.

I play this in the car and my Greek Mother in Law sings it out of the window, laughing and waving at any blacks she sees on the street.

Imma play this at my wedding and then tell people the lyrics behind the song

Thanks for playing this, not censoring it.

As a greek I confirm that the subtitles are legit. Translation in English does make the (already racist) lyrics sound even worse (literal translation instead of trying to find equivalent words).

I'd like to believe that we've come a long way in the last decades, like the rest of the world (this song is 58 years old). Back then this song didn't even trigger as racist, they were different times.

He's playing the hell out of that balalaika, though.

Relax y'all.

This song is from a country in an era when there were absolutely no black people in that country and its inhabitants would only see them in National Geographic documentaries about Africa and foreign sport events. The word used in the song is NOT equivalent to the N word. In fact it comes from the word Arab and became derogatory long after that movie was made. Also it is still perfectly OK to use it as a joke to emphasize its racist connotations and ridicule the subtle ignorant racism of the era it was coined. There was another parody song that used it by Sakis Boulas titled "Why did you treat me as if I was an Arapis" which is hilarious, its singer was left leaning and anything but racist and everybody knows that he used the word ironically.

Dont judge other cultures and other eras by your own culture's and era's taboos.

You mean the most racist song on YouTube now that every trace of Johnny Rebel has been erased

It's got a beat and you can dance to
Anonymous teen on American Bandstand.
No matter how you feel about this, it's still historical and shouldn't be erased from it. We can't bury the past or we forget.

Amazing how very few people
recognize a Bouzouki.I played
back up guitar for the owner of
a Greek restaurant (San Diego)
and the local papers said he
played a Bazooka. The many
meters like 9/8 and 7/4 were
hard to follow and the sight
of a shapely belly dancer from
behind did not help.The guy
on film is a great player. We
went from these lyrics to a
black Cleopatra, no middle
ground, how about loving one
another, corny, but practical.
As a kid I had fantasies about
women of all ethnicities, when
they came true I realized I was
with a person, that's all.

I know that he's a great bouzouki player next to Hiotis, but as a Greek I totally agree that this is indeed a racist ahh song.

Just curious...what movie is this, and what's the name of the song? Also, how old is this, and was it ever censored/banned in other countries?

I actually find this song funny, and I am black.

At the time the song was released, it had nothing to do with racism.. there were no colored people in Greece to assume that there was a racist intention... it is an exaggeration of the person who uploaded it on youtube to gather its creator song has nothing to do with extreme behaviors... we're talking about a man who was partying all day, loved and helped a lot of people.
