The video explains why it is important to check your oil tank regularly to ensure it is in good condition. Although leaks from heating oil tanks are rare, it is wise not to take a risk because a leak can prove costly for both the tank owner and the environment. The best way to do this is to have it checked regularly by an OFTEC registered technician as part of your annual boiler service. They will advise you of any problems and recommend any changes that need to be made.

The video also explains some simple checks you can do yourself and the warning signs you should look out for. This is particularly important for single skin tanks that are more than 10 years old because, like any domestic appliance, oil tanks will eventually wear out. If you have a tank that is nearing the end of its useful life, it’s best to replace it before it fails, rather than risking the possibility of a leak.
