Sincerely Me - Dear Evan Hansen (ANIMATIC)

evan is an anxious teenager who accidentally makes up a story about him and a recently-passed loner, connor. to keep the charade going, jared helps create a series of fake emails between evan and connor, pretending that they were secretly close friends.

the curtain opens, and the show begins.

the surprise musical is dear evan hansen! a surprising amount of you guessed it correctly, so i'm glad something like this was anticipated! :D

(also lmao some of y'all still expect hamilton to come out of here. refer to my 10k faq for my thoughts on that)

some notes:
1. i've been planning to do this song for a while, because it's catchy as all hell. it's probably my favorite from the soundtrack. i was originally going to do 'waving through a window' first, but i scrapped it because i had a better idea for this one.
2. since the song is about making up a story/performance, i mapped out a theatre-like production where connor is an actor and evan/jared are script writers. motifs!
3. connor's hair is hard to draw, so it took me a while to settle with a design lol
4. fun fact: the laptop jared/evan uses changes logo based on who's typing. jared - bitten bath bomb, evan - bitten tree
5. apparently the arm cast is supposed to go up to the wrist, to prevent it from moving. i didn't know this, but i think it was better with the hand out since i could incorporate more motion

Evan's Connor: Happy go lucky source of friendship, but also, the personification of his anxiety. So in some cruel way he's befriended his worst enemy because he had no one else.

Lol when I watched the animatic I thought it was just 2 guys singing about their friendship and the random purple guy is there. I also found it weird that they were writing Connor's part too but I ignored that. Then I went and watched the musical and BOY WAS I WRONG!

ok for some reason the "miss you dearly" part in this animatic rrreeally got to me for some reason.. like it hurts. I dunno if this is just me but like I often forget that connor was even dead in the first place. and just connor's simple gesture of signing evan's cast really big makes it more painful to think about the line "miss you dearly" from evan's point of view. so this animatic, where his hand kind of curls into a fist but then connor's hand is there??? it was a wonderful touch. :)
