I worked in a children's hospital on the oncology floor, and it's a different type of sadness you feel watching children and babies even suffering through the treatments. It's not like a regular oncology ward, where all the patients have already lived out their long lives and this is to be expected. The heartbreak is palpable. Some parents handle it better than others. Some stop visiting their children everyday bc they can't bear the pain of watching their innocent child be tormented. It takes a special kind of person to be able to enter this environment every day and not eventually break. I was not one of those people who could. But there are many unsung heroes who keep doing it day after day, and they deserve to be celebrated ❤️
