SUPER EASY DIY!!! You're literally going to cut a "U" out of two pieces of fabric :)
This is the perfect Summer DIY because it's breezy and effortless.
Better yet, you can customize it in any fabric you want.
BEGINNER TIPS!
If you're a beginner sewer, I would buy a fabric that can be cut clean so you don't have to hem and clean finishing all your edges.
Also buy a ribbon or trim that you can use for your straps, so you don't need to worry about those either!

MATERIALS********************
2 yards of fabric (Cropped pants are Linen, Black pants are 100% Rayon)
Cutting Mat (Optional)

I just made these today. I'm a plus size girl, and the pattern she describes works just fine! Take those 3 measurements she explains, and the you have to add 5 inches to your waist measurement for the between-the-legs part, and a few inches all around for seam allowance. It was super easy and they look really cute!

Just one adjustment: for those of us with "more junk in the trunk, " the "crotchal" measurement would not be divided in half. It needs to skew more to the back.

For the straps on the front to the back. I put elastic in and sew it shut So it gets connected . When you put them on you step into the front to back loop, that way no bulky bow in the back and I feel more secure in it.

I tried making these by following the video and learned a couple of things:
1) Use the waist measurement: The width of the fabric when folded in half needs to include your 1/2 waist measurement plus the 5" or so that you cut out for the crotch.
2)Account for a hem or the waistband when cutting the length: if you do it just like Orly does, add 1/2" for the doubled-over 1/4" hem and 11/4" for the waistband for a total addition of 1.75" to your length measurement. If you want a wider hem (I did, based on my material choice), be sure to add that.

Sadly, I didn't realize any of this until it was too late and I'm either going to make these pants and give them to the Goodwill or toss the material and try again. Love the look and simplicity, though!

I just did a mock up with a goodwill flat sheet, and it turned out great! THe tie in the back gave me a weird bulge though, so I trimmed the straps and added three snaps. It is much smoother now! Thanks, ORly!

Omgosh both cuts and colours are spot on perfection! If you notice that I’m commenting after watching this video for the first time 2 years after Orly originally posted it, it’s a testament to her foresight and fashion forward creative genius. Orly, thank you for creating these videos and being the Bestest sewing teacher ever in the world. I love how you show every item needed, how you show every single step and explain in detail how and why. However I must admit that I agree with the majority of comments that it would be greatly beneficial to also show and explain how to achieve the same piece in larger or plus size…if possible. The current woman’s average size in clothing is 16-18 which is approximately a plus size 1-2X. Although this channel will forever be my favourite and watched frequently, if anyone knows of YouTube channel that shows very similar content but in larger sizes please let me know.

Thank you so much for posting this! A friend of mine showed me how to do this during an old bellydancing class, and I immediately wanted to try it. But I lost the napkin she gave me, and I've been looking for this pattern ever since. Finding this video, and your easy, fun instructions, is the culmination for years of searching! I can't wait to try it!

I love these type of pants. Wore them all the time in the '70's and didn't realize they are popular again until just recently. Have looked lots of places to find affordable ones but, as I sew quite well, this is an even better solution. I think I will sew myself 4 or 5 pair this weekend. THANK YOU!

I'm always so curious about the dislikes. This is a very straight-forward, easy to understand tutorial about a garment that ACTUALLY LOOKS CUTE. So.... what's not to like???

I cant believe I'm just weeing this! I watch a ton of your vids too! I found the old pattern my Fly sister used back in 1978 to make these- made two pair for a fashion show last month. Everyone loved them! So cute!

Too funny!!! I made and wore these pants in late 70’s early 80’s. The only difference was I made the tie straps, one long piece that encased the pants also... making the waist band and ties all one piece. Thanks for bringing back great memories Orly. ❤️

Just a tip if you are worried about that pants gapping open you can sew in a hook and eye/ snap closures.

I totally love this video. I'm an old lady and I feel I can do these pants. I'm going to do them in a lightweight linen for a wedding reception. Thank you so much!

I bought a pair of these in New Orleans during Essence Festival. I love those pants, I have had them for around for over 18 years. I got them from an African boutique at the farmer market there. Now I don't have to wait for a trip there to find them, I can make my own. This tutorial was great. And your end result look on you. This got to go into my YouTube files. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you in the days to come.
