Most people agree Riddick Bowe's prime was during his first fight with Evander Holyfield. But he let himself go afterwards which showed in the second Holyfield fight, and also in the fight against Andrew Golota. By that time, there's no way Bowe was gonna beat Lewis.

Both Bowe and Lewis became more powerful and complete fighters throughout the years which is interesting. Though I feel Lennox Lewis is more consistent. But Bowe himself is a great fighter. I think if Bowe could beat Lewis, Lewis might win more across time. But we'll never know.

Imagine if Bowe and Lewis had fought in '93 or '94? This was the biggest fight of the '90's we never got to see.

Shame this fight never happened - difficult to say how would have won - Bowe was stopped prematurely in the Olympics - very talented Riddick Bowe - Lewis developed into a fantastic heavyweight late on… who knows…

Excerpted from "The Legacy Of Lennox Lewis With Emanuel Steward
, August 2, 2012"
.... I was with Eddie Futch one day and he, and his wife, and I were together in Las Vegas just sitting at a little coffee shop. I asked him about the Riddick Bowe fight when he threw away the belt rather than fight Lennox. He said, “Emanuel that was my doing. It was my decision because what happened in the ’88 Olympics, I always felt if they fought professionally it would have been the same thing. Even though Bowe was good, Lennox was always such a physically strong and mentally strong big kid, that eventually he would have still overpowered Bowe again because he was just that type of a rough guy”.

If he had ever fought Riddick Bowe as a professional, even before Bowe had liked slipped and lost his talent and his skills, Lennox would have hurt Riddick Bowe I think very seriously, because he a real hatred for Riddick Bowe. So I’m glad that’s a fight that I never saw. ...

It's a shame this fight never happened, The Bowe camp wanted no part of Lewis. In a trilogy, I'll go with 2 out of 3 for Lewis. Bowe wins fight 1 in 1992/93, then Lewis comes back and wins fights 2 and 3 by knockout. How about Bowe vs Tyson ? That would be a banger, In 1992 I might favor Bowe.

Not for nothing Lennox Lewis was the more complete fighter of the two.
Lewis has 2 KO losses on his record and avenged both losses which shows Lewis' dedication to the sport, ability to learn from his past mistakes and the discipline not to repeat his errors.
Bowe didn't have the quality opponents Lewis faced.
The most adversity Bowe faced in the ring was Andrew Golota, and look at what Golota did to Bowe: took his heart and broke him down. Without the low blows Bowe would have been KO'd or TKO'd.
Ray Mercer, Oliver McCall, Hasim Rachman, Vitaly Klitschko, Evander Holyfield and Frank Bruno brought it to Lewis and lost.
I don't see Bowe winning against Lewis.

I always believed Lewis would defeat Bowe impressively if the two had met.
It would been a hell of a fight if it happened. Bowe's best bet would be to emulate Lewis, like Hearns did to Leonard, which confused Leonard each time.
Both were good fighters. I think Lewis brought a little bit more to the table and fought the overall better competition.
If they fought three times, Bowe might have won one of their fights. But probably not their initial encounter.
Bowe was tough as hell, but Lewis was more cerebral in big fights, and Bowe would have been one of THE defining opponents of his career.
I can't see Lewis being dominated by Bowe, but I can see a rattled Bowe falling apart against a prime Lewis.
Kudos to Both fighters for their efforts making the wonderful 90's the marvelous time for boxing that it was.

Lewis gets knocked out in the first fight in the 7th round and in the next fight I think Lewis knocks out Bowe in the 3rd round

Bowe improved way more than the 1988 Olympic fight, he bulked up and his punches got more powerful and were more than capable to KO Lewis. A shame it didn't happen, I'd still give it to lewis 55% to win but if Bowe caught him with his whip like punches, then lights out for Lennox.

Man that would have been a great fight and It bothers me a little when I hear people \critics say that Riddick Bowe was afraid and didnt want to fight Lennox Lewis and that's why he binned the WBC belt, that's not true Bowe wasn't afraid of any man inside the ring it was negotiatings they never worked out an contract/agreement

I remember reading in KO magazine 1 year before they were supposed to fight in February 93 that Lewis's people reached out to Bowes people many times trying to get the fight. It was never going to happen

Early 90s most likely Bowe, late 90s most likely Lewis! Prime for prime would be Lewis!
